I’m your boogmyan, turn me on

Becoming the Boogyman by Richard Chizmar

January 12, 2024 by Bea Pants Leave a Comment

Becoming the Boogyman is the unexpected (at least by me) follow up to Richard Chizmar’s 2021 novel, Chasing the Boogyman. This review contains some spoilers for the previous book. The concept for the series. Chizmar uses a fictionalized version of himself and those around him as characters, which caused some confusion as to whether or not this is a work of fiction or true crime. However, The Boogyman, while terrifying, is completely fictional. Becoming the Boogyman starts off several years after the end of its […]

A happy and blessed Thanksgiving to all who observe! Here is my list of readings that I got to in November that didn’t merit a longer review… The Golden Cage*** Part 1: Ma’am, wyd? Part 2: Good for her! Part 3: Good for…her? Also, kinda sad. Epilogue: Good for her! This is a good, trashy beach read. I just wish there had been less on Faye’s shady past- which wasn’t filled in well-and more on the machinations to destroy her husband’s business. Also, I’m not […]

Gwendy 2 – 2 Gwendy 2 Featherous – and also Gwendy 3

Gwendy's Magic Feather by Richard Chizmar

Gwendy's Final Task by Stephen King; Richard Chizmar

October 27, 2022 by vel veeter 1 Comment

Gwendy’s Feather – The Buttonbox universe continues! This time without Stephen King for good and bad, I think. The writing is mostly the same and Richard Chizmar does a pretty good job of mimicking the style as needed. It’s most weird that Richard Chizmar in playing in the Stephen King universe more than anything. There’s some references to Alan Pangborn here of The Dark Half and Needful Things fame or infame, though he’s not a major element in the book. It’s a Castle Rock book […]

Gwendy’s Final Task

Gwendy's Final Task by Stephen King

March 30, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

The only reason why I am giving this a grudging two stars is because of the Easter eggs to other King works. If not for that, this would barely get a 1. What kills me with this story honestly is that if you have not read the Dark Tower, Castle Rock books, and IT you are going to be totally lost. I ended up just wishing that King had done a last book on the Dark Tower series, or maybe done a third book in […]

He walked like no man on earth, I swear he had no name.

As you know by now, I’m a sucker for Uncle Stevie. Anything he writes, I’ll read. Novel, short story, op-ed, tweets, collaborations…I’m there. That’s why I’m a Constant Reader. This isn’t the first collaboration with another author that I’ve read by King. He wrote a few short stories with his son, Joe Hill that were pretty good (In the Tall Grass was legitimately terrifying). His book with Stewart O’Nan, Faithful, is probably my favorite non-fiction book of all time. So, even though I had never […]
