I’m so, so glad I got back into Robin Hobb’s books. Totally worth it.

Fool's Errand (The Tawny Man, #1) by Robin Hobb

It’s been a few weeks now* and I’m still trying to wrap my head around how much this book ensorcelled me, and how weird that felt after my (mostly) negative experience with the first Fitz trilogy a handful of years back. I suppose I should have seen this coming, though, with how much I loved The Liveship Traders, but a lot of things I didn’t like about the first Fitz trilogy were actually addressed here, and I’m sure there’s a bit of me in this […]

“Tomorrow owes you the sum of your yesterdays. No more than that. And no less.”

The Mad Ship (Liveship Traders, #2) by Robin Hobb

This book does what it wants. I kept trying to read it faster than it wanted me to read it, and it took me twice as long as I thought it would. Not because it was bad, but because it was Too Much and I kept having to stop and process things. Also, sometimes when books stress me out I have to put them down because who knows what fool thing is going to happen next, and that was also going on here as well. […]

I fell in love with this book a little.

Ship of Magic (Liveship Traders, #1) by Robin Hobb

I will be honest, I went into this book with as open a mind as I could muster, but I did not really expect to like it that much. This is because I did not end up liking the Farseer Trilogy very much at all, for a variety of reasons (despite having rated the first book in that series four stars, which I should honestly revisit and lower). Ironically, I went into those books fully expecting to love them. But much to my surprise, and […]

Too long, too slow, and Fitz is a butt.

Things I did not expect: 1. That koalas, cute though they may be, are actually incredibly gross animals who basically feed their babies poo, and who are so dumb they can’t even recognize a eucalyptus leaf when it’s removed from a branch and offered to them. 2. The Spanish Inquisition. 3. To three-star most of this series. This is one of those series (and authors) people have been recommending to me for yearrrrs now. And many of them have done so while telling me it’s […]
