Fool's Quest (Fitz and the Fool, #2) by Robin Hobb

December 31, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

“I found myself speaking softly as if I were telling an old tale to a young child. And giving it a happy ending, when all know that tales never end, and the happy ending is but a moment to catch one’s breath before the next disaster.” Seriously, at this point—the middle book of a trilogy that is itself the penultimate book in a sixteen book epic saga of a series—it is virtually impossible to talk about anything in a review that won’t spoil SOMETHING, so […]

WTF cliffhanger. #CBRBINGO – Heart

Fool's Assassin (Fitz and the Fool, #1) by Robin Hobb

Been putting off writing this review because with each book in this series, my emotions get more and more entangled and it’s basically agony to write about them because it makes me feel them all over again. Luckily, until about the last hundred pages, this book wasn’t as agony-filled as the rest of the Fitz books have been, but those last hundred pages sure make up for it. The rest of the book, though not exactly sad, was also emotionally intense. Basically, you’re signing up […]

A good last book to this pretty good series.

Blood of Dragons (The Rain Wild Chronicles, #4) by Robin Hobb

Dang, I thought I’d already reviewed this. Sorry I’m about to do a half-assed job because I had already scrubbed my critical thoughts from my brain upon my (imaginary) completion of this (nonexistent) review. This was definitely not Robin Hobb’s best series, and definitely a let-down after The Liveship Traders and The Tawny Man trilogies. But it was still good! Just not great. And this last book brought things to a conclusion in probably the best way it could. I actually think I was more […]

This series should have been two big books instead of four smaller ones.

City of Dragons (The Rain Wild Chronicles, #3) by Robin Hobb

30 Books in 30 Days, Vol. 2 Book 7/30 This ended just as it was getting going! I understand that there were publishing issues, and logistical things to consider in terms of ballooning page length on this one, but if I were her publishers, I would have just let her turn in one gigantic book late than split the book in two, to its detriment, just so they could publish on time. This is not a full story, and it starts out slow in the […]

A five star trilogy.

Fool's Fate (The Tawny Man, #3) by Robin Hobb

I can’t even tell you how glad I am that I gave Robin Hobb’s books another chance. It was totally worth it just for this trilogy alone. I don’t even know if I’ve had a turnaround this notable on a fictional character before. After I finished the first Fitz trilogy, I thought I was done, that her writing was not for me, and that Fitz’s story was definitely one that just didn’t resonate with me. And then on a whim years later I decided to […]

“To recognize you are the source of your own loneliness is not a cure for it. But it is a step toward seeing that it is not inevitable, and that such a choice is not irrevocable.”

The Golden Fool (The Tawny Man, #2) by Robin Hobb

Hoo boy. Yet another entry in this series has gotten me so involved that I can’t stop thinking about it, and also am upset deep down in my core at some of the heart-wrenching things that went on here. I truly feel these gifs are the only thing that convey my feelings: Thankfully, there were some heartwarming things accompanying the agony otherwise I would not have survived. I was a bit nervous of this one, because we were headed back to Buckkeep and to court, […]
