Still just as good as I remembered it

What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long

February 18, 2020 by Malin 2 Comments

I first read and reviewed this book back in 2011 (when it came out), during Cannonball III. My original review, which among other things contains a plot summary, can be found here. If you do take a look at my previous review (or just check my rating of this book), you can see that the rather unlikely romance between Miss Genevieve Eversea Lord Alexander Moncrieffe, the Duke of Falconbridge is one of my absolute favourites. I loved it utterly when I first read it back in […]

I think I loved it even more on a re-read

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

January 26, 2020 by Malin Leave a Comment

My original, and extremely enthusiastic review of this book, can be found here. This was my first re-read (of what I’m sure will be many) and this time, I chose to listen to the audio book. When I first listened to the sample available on Audible, I was honestly not sure if I liked Ramon de Ocampo’s narration, but after seeing the audio book of this highlighted on a bunch of best of the year lists, I decided to give him a chance. Of course, the […]

“My father told me once that the most important thing every man should know is what he would die for.”

Faithful Place (Dublin Murder Squad, #3) by Tana French

December 30, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was even better the second time. I think this might actually be the most balanced of all the books, in terms of tragedy vs. hope. In the Woods is just tragic all around, as is Broken Harbour, and The Likeness is still too full of Cassie’s grief over her partnership/friendship with Rob, and with what happens in the actual book, for it to feel much like a win when she gets proposed to by Sam. But here, devastating things happen to Frank (happened to Frank 22 years before), […]

“I found out early that you can throw yourself away, missing what you’ve lost.”

The Likeness (Dublin Murder Squad, #2) by Tana French

December 30, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

Four years later and in a different format, this book is still great. I always do audiobooks on my first reads of Tana French’s books. There’s something very satisfying about listening to someone telling you their innermost feelings, as her books do like no other, and the audio format only enhances that for me. But I’ve been doing paper copies on my re-reads, and that’s an interesting experience too. It takes it more out of the feelings and into the craft of it (the feelings […]

Just some rambling thoughts about a book I love.

Prince's Gambit (Captive Prince, #2) by C.S. Pacat

December 30, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

I re-read this whole trilogy in October, but I only ended up writing a review for #2. Oh, well. I’m not going to be able to write a real review of this. It would just come out garbled with enthusiasm. Instead, I’m going to do a real spoilery bullet point thing and see what comes out. Absolutely do not read any further unless you’ve already read all three books. *If Laurent didn’t already know that Damen was Damianos, he would know by the end of […]

Trying desperately to get enough reviews for my double Cannonball

Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews

White Hot by Ilona Andrews

Wildfire by Ilona Andrews

Diamond Fire by Ilona Andrews

December 27, 2019 by Malin 4 Comments

Sapphire Flames, book 4 in the series (novellas only count as half instalments) and the continuation of the series came out in August (on my birthday – thank you, House Andrews, for your benevolence!). In the months leading up to that release, I wanted to re-read the previous books, so everything was fresh in my mind. The plan was that my husband would read them too (how am I married to a man who just simply refuses to read the same things I like and […]
