I love the rat queens. The first book was amazing, fresh and funny. The second book was fast paced and hilarious. Before I read the third volume I went back and re-read the second one. That when I realized it was like a whole new book. I couldn’t remember anything about it at all. Apparently this series quality is deteriorating. And fast. It’s been a week since I read the third one. And I can’t really tell you what it’s about. There is a bunch […]
Shaky start, terrible wardrobe, but a promising series
This was a fun start to a graphic series and I’ll probably check out the second volume just to see where the story goes and if the writing continues to get stronger. I almost put this one down after a couple of pages, but I’m glad I stuck with it because it definitely improved. The Rat Queens are a group of 4 women working as for-hire monster killers. They’re a diverse group. There’s Hannah the slightly unhinged Elven mage, Dee the human who left a […]
Foul-mouthed, action-packed, sexy and fun
4.5 stars (both volumes) Rat Queens, volume 1: Sass and Sorcery Rat Queens, volume 2: The Far Reaching Tentacles of N’rygoth Meet the fierce and fearsome ladies of the Rat Queens, although calling them ladies is probably to exaggerate. There’s Hannah the Elven Mage, whose parents are both necromancers; Violet the Hipster Dwarven Fighter, who shaved her beard off and left her family because she wanted to brawl; Dee the Atheist Human Cleric, whose family are Cultists of the giant Squid God of N’Rygoth and […]
Bruised Violet, You Got This Squid Thing That Follows Me Around
You all went out and bought Volume 1 of Rat Queens after my last review, right? (Or, if you are narfna, you demanded that your library supply you with it, because who really stocks a library with only volume 2 of something?!) I’m going to pretend that you all did, because I want to believe you are wonderful people that love nice things and it would break my heart to find out you were apathetic about my Rat Queens. If it’s possible, this volume managed […]
Rebel Girl, You are the (Rat) Queen of My World
Everyone knows that Saga is the best new graphic novel in ages. It is known. And I know everyone is going to accuse me of taking crazy pills, BUT…I think Rat Queens may be even better than Saga. (In my own completely factual and not at all subjective opinion.) But, they are both part of Image Comics, which is quickly becoming the most innovative and inclusive of all the comic book houses. Seriously, Image Comics has cornered the market on interesting, bad ass, multi-dimensional women […]
