A series I am sad to see go.

The Desolation of Devil's Acre by Ransom Riggs

September 16, 2021 by chelz.hawk Leave a Comment

“Stay safe, peculiar folk, it’s weird out there. And not in a good way.” Caul is back. And once again all of peculiardom is in danger. Loops are being raided and destroyed all over the world, sending refugee peculiars flooding into Devil’s Acre. But things in the acre are more than a little weird as it beings to rain  blood, bones, and ash. Noor and Jacob have no idea how they survived V’s loop and ended up back on Abe Portman’s front porch, […]

I am feeling a little peculiar

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

July 7, 2021 by The Book Omnivore 2 Comments

This post is brought to you by a light fever, courtesy of the first dose of the Covid vaccine so if it feels like I am rambling, it is because I am. I am probably one of the last people to read this book but in case you are too, here’s a summary: 16 year old Jacob lives an ordinary, boring life. He was brought up on his grandfather’s seemingly tall tales about his extraordinary life and all the peculiar friends he had growing up, […]

DNF at 25 Percent- A Map of Days is Mind-Numbing

A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs

January 25, 2019 by Classic 2 Comments

Sigh. I just DNFed this at 25 percent. I wasn’t enjoying the children in this one and following Jacob as he is crowned “The One” through a fourth book didn’t sound like a good time to me. I think that the last book ended perfectly and had the right message that life isn’t fair. I thought it had a good logic behind Jacob following in his grandfather’s steps with him not being able to say with the people he loved. I thought it was up […]

“It’s a brave new world, Mr. Portman, And we’ll be right behind you.”

A Map of Days (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children #4) by Ransom Riggs

December 30, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

No exaggeration- it took me an entire month to finish Ransom Rigg’s Map of Days. I could say that the lure of television, the Internet and an endless calendar of holiday activities that impeded my ability to complete the fourth installment of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children but that wouldn’t be the truth. The truth is this was an awful book but the completionist in me felt determined to ride it out. I had actually planned this to be my ‘This is the End’ bingo square […]

Been on my Backlog for a while, but sort of wish I’d never read it (BINGO 2!)

November 16, 2018 by Aquillia Leave a Comment

Upon realizing that I could get a Bingo by filling in the ‘Backlog’ square, I went searching through my Kindle library for something I’d bought ages ago but never actually read. This resulted, a little oddly, in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I’d bought it years back when it was quite popular, but never actually read it. For those who don’t know the story, it’s about a sixteen year old boy named Jacob who grew up on his grandfather’s strange stories and accompanying photos about […]

Episode 1-41: Old Timey Fisticuffs

November 4, 2018 by prisco Leave a Comment

https://killingmykindle.com/2018/11/04/episode-1-41-old-timey-fisticuffs/ Wherein I review: 150. The Lost Plot (Invisible Library #4) by Genevieve Cogman 151. A Map of Days (Miss Peregrine #4) by Ransom Riggs 152. Desperate Measures (Stone Barrington #47) by Stuart Woods 153. The Mauritius Command (Aubrey & Maturin #4) by Patrick O’Brian It’s all on the fours.  Fourth swashbuckler, fourth Miss Peregrine’s Steampunk X-Men, fourth Invisible Library.  It’s all very old school, and enjoyable.  Fourthbook is a big deal, because it’s either revamping or saying, “We’re in this for the long haul, […]
