“You have to pretend you get an endgame. You have to carry on like you will; otherwise, you can’t carry on at all.”

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

January 27, 2020 by Caitycat 1 Comment

I’ve been working on this review for a while, and I was finally going to polish it and publish it, but I ended up deleting it, so I’m going to quickly do a new one. I read Carry On back when it first came out (I would normally link to my review, but I never actually reviewed it). I loved it back then, so now that the sequel was being released, and with a bit of time to kill waiting for my fancy copy to […]

Not so little runaways

Runaways Vol. 1: Find Your Way Home by Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka

Runaways Vol. 2: Best Friends Forever by Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka

June 22, 2019 by Debcapsfan Leave a Comment

4.5 stars This post contains spoilers from the original Runaways graphic novels. When I found out that one of my favorite authors and favorite people to follow on Twitter, Rainbow Rowell was writing a continuation of the Runaways, a group of Marvel teens that find out their parents and super evil and murdering kids, I was very excited. I had only read the first 3 collected volumes, but Gert and Chase are one of my favorite couples of all time. I knew that Rainbow Rowell […]

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

February 1, 2019 by esme 4 Comments

Oh what fun!  This was such a delightful read during the grim darkness of winter. I have read a few books by Rainbow Rowell that I really loved and one that didn’t work for me. When Carry On popped up at the library, I was looking for something frothy and fun and escapist, and I had no expectation about the story. I could not have chosen a better book. Simon Snow, a 17 year old boy, is the most powerful wizard ever, but he is […]

I Think I Get the Rainbow Hype

October 24, 2018 by lumenatrix 1 Comment

Well, this is just the most charming book I have read in awhile. I had heard so many people both here and in other book-type places talking about Rainbow Rowell for years and while I never really avoided her I just didn’t get around to picking up one of her books until now either. After reading this book, I think I get why I heard about her so much. Park is a half-Korean, half-White kid who has spent his entire life in a suburb of […]

Nourishment for My Soul

May 23, 2018 by Debcapsfan 6 Comments

5 Stars I got this book for Pajiba Krampus because I knew I would love it. I finished Carry On and my husband asked me how it was. I clapped giddily and cried, that’s how much I enjoyed it. It’s based on the fan fiction that Cath is writing of a very Harry Potterish series in the book Fangirl. This book has a Chosen One character Simon Snow, and his roommate, Baz, who is a vampire. Simon’s best friend Penelope and his girlfriend Agatha. Cath […]

You’ve Got (E)Mail… I’m secretly reading

February 25, 2018 by sempernox 8 Comments

I decided to continue exploring Rainbow Rowell’s oeuvre, this time with one of her earlier books, Attachments. One of the unique things about this book includes its narrative structure, which includes traditional third-person perspective interspersed with email correspondence between two additional, central characters. Specifically, the book focuses on Lincoln, a 28-year old IT guy at a newspaper company whose sole job consists of reading email correspondence and flagging them for profanity and company violations. (The story occurs in 1999, a simpler technological time where the threat […]
