I’m so excited and I…. gotta sit down and read books

Loveykins by Quentin Blake

Pavlo Get the Grumps by Natalia Shaloshvili

CBR16SweetBooks #Exciting To get me excited over a book there has to be something about it that just grabs me. And of course, that does not mean it works out in the end but some times it does. The covers of these two picture books fit that bill of they “grabbed me” and got me excited. The first is about a bird that is from its cover, a crossed-eyed, awkward looking chap (think Quentin Blake illustrations as it is by Blake). And the second is about a cat that just […]

May 15, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

A rating of 3 makes this seem like it On the Move: Home Is Where You Find It is not a good book/collection. However, this rating is because of the images of Quentin Blake, which I am not a fan of. However, they are perfect for the atmosphere of the writing (raw, desolate, almost hopeless) and since t there are no half points, this is a 3.5 lower 4. The idea of migration, refugees, immigrants, all come together while we follow Michael Rosen finding out about […]

Treat yourself! There are no tricks!

Roald Dahl: Trick or Treat: With Lift-the-Flap Surprises! by Roald Dahl

The Power of Yeti by Rebecca Van Slyke

February 16, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Sure, I like candy for Halloween, but I also like books. So, if I can treat myself with a book or two at that time of year, it is great (okay I’ll be honest, any time of the year, and you know it’s more like 13). However, I do not think Halloween (or Christmas, or St. Patrick, or even first day of school) books should be limited to one time of year. They are great no matter when you read them. And these two books […]
