Why do people keep ruining this book?

I was super excited when I saw this at my local bookstore. One of my all-time favorite classics, modernized and gender-swapped, set at Christmas, and with a cute cover. This was going to be great. Oh dear, where to start with this one. I wanted to like it, I really did! But ultimately this book was such a let down.
