Lots of useful advice when gestating a tiny human

December 1, 2017 by Malin 10 Comments

Since not all the readers of my blog are necessarily also readers here on the group blog or my friends on Facebook, you may not know that I am currently in the process of growing a tiny human inside me. This comes after more than seven years of trying to get pregnant and nearly two emotionally taxing and occasionally very depressing years where every few months I went through time consuming, expensive and at times really rather painful IVF treatments. So I worked HARD for […]

You are saving their lives for a life not worth living

February 19, 2017 by borisanne Leave a Comment

Bird Box is proof that you don’t need to be inventive to be creative and thrilling. There is nothing new in this novel that hasn’t been introduced by someone else, and yet it’s a phenomenal and magical combination of a whole pile of often-used ingredients. It’s haunting, and tense, and violent, and touching. Without dropping too many spoilers, I’ll say that this is the story of a young woman who survives a world-ending event along with a handful of strangers who find themselves tied to […]

I tried interpretive dance to expess my feelings but I broke all the furniture

January 28, 2016 by Zirza 20 Comments

Before conception Hi there! So we gather you want to get pregnant. That’s just awesome. Isn’t life just awesome? Make sure you see your doctor first, though, and make sure you are up to date with all your vaccinations. You wouldn’t want to catch the Hanta virus, Dengue fever, Malaria, African Tripanosomiasis or any of the other rampant and extremely dangerous diseases that regularly occur on the North American mainland, now would you? Also, you should probably make an appointment with your dentist. Pregnancy will […]

Sisters Seem Fun Sometimes, Sometimes Not So Fun

January 27, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

So this is final Liane Moriarty book until she publishes something new!  Excuse me while I experience some sadness.  Ok, done. Having just finished the Last Anniversary and the Hypnotist’s Love Story and being mildly disappointed with them both (they were good, not great), I wasn’t sure what I was going to get with Three Wishes.  I’m happy to report that I wasn’t let down.  Three Wishes tells the story of the […]

Another Pregnancy Book I Would Actually Buy for Someone

March 2, 2015 by Fiat.Luxury 4 Comments

If I had to summarize this book in one word, it would be “reassuring.” This is a book written by three OB/GYNs who are also moms. It gives a general but helpful overview of what to expect in each of the three trimester and the “fourth trimester” until baby is 3 months old. There are frequent anecdotes from both their practice and their own pregnancy experiences that help ground their advice and keep it interesting and real.  Each of the authors had their own challenges with pregnancy […]

Expecting Better than “What to Expect…”

February 28, 2015 by Fiat.Luxury 21 Comments

Well, I just got back from my first real ultrasound and now the internet/world knows that we’re expecting a little Fiat.Luxury Jr. in 6 months!  So naturally, I’ve been reading–and hate-reading–a lot of pregnancy books. There are a lot of pregnancy books out there, you guys. And a lot of them are condescending, fear-mongering, and almost useless.   I won’t be reviewing all of them because I have other, better books that I want to review, but anyone who’s ever picked up a pregnancy book will be […]
