One of the Better Bosh Books

Bosh! by Henry Firth, Ian Theasby

January 5, 2025 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I get books for Christmas, sometimes from myself. Especially if I’m in a favorite indie bookshop. That’s how I ended up taking home two cookbooks, one of which was Bosh!. This is a series I’ve reviewed from before, but I don’t think I’ve done the original, first in the series. Basically, this is a British vegan food Youtube channel (probably; there’s a chance the website plus videos was first) that went viral before that was a thing, and then there were books. The books have […]

Bean Counting Lesson Book with Monkey Bread and Some Other Stuff

Hungry as Hell by Bad Manners LLC

November 5, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I’m still not quite sure about how I feel about the Bad Manners brand series of vegan cookbooks. On the one hand, the first one had a lot of good recipes in it, but the brand had some major issues with racial insensitivity and it took several years for that to get addressed publicly. Then, under the rebrand, a lot of random cussing does not equate bad manners, so that didn’t quite fit, and the tone was different, like the cursing was different and just […]

Plant-Powered Protein by Nava Atlas

May 28, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I’m getting a little tired of the plant based meat substitute trends in cookbooks, which seems to still be going strong. Still, I picked up Plant-Powered Protein out of curiosity, and it’s actually got some interesting things in it. Two of the best parts is the review in an appendix of the nutritional properties of many plant-based meats that are becoming increasingly commercially common. It’s not a full nutrition label for everything, but it is a list of the major brands ,what they tend to […]

The No Meat Athlete Cookbook by Matt Frazier, Stepfanie Romine

April 30, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Happy end of semester impulse buy to me (university English teacher here). I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much from The No Meat Athlete Cookbook, since my scan in the bookstore revealed a pretty generic set of recipes, but I went ahead and bought it because it included a sweet red bean recipe and I’ve been wanting something like that (could I have gone internet digging, sure, but that’s a bother), as well as some actually palatable looking diy sports drink options. Most of […]
