Fox and Boar are friends

Tiny Fox and Great Boar Book Two: Furthest by Berenika Kolomycka

July 7, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Tiny Fox and Great Boar Book Two: Furthest has three different stories that are connected. Berenika Kolomycka’s second book in this series is set in three different locations. The first is a meadow, the second during their travels and a foggy mountain, and the final one the seaside/the ocean. Now, it might have helped to have known book one, but this book does mostly stand on its own. The format is broken into three chapters that show the travels and adventures of two characters, Tiny […]

Something that happened in the ’80’s can be history, right?

Robert Pickton: The Pig Farmer Serial Killer (Crimes Canada: True Crimes That Shocked The Nation Book 1) by Chris Swinney

October 30, 2019 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So my friend got me started listening to a true crime podcast based on the most recent story she heard.  It was about a pig farmer named Robert Pickton.  He was apparently a semi-notorious Canadian serial killer.  I didn’t even know that Canada had serial killers! She told me about a book that they kept mentioning, but it was like $15 and I didn’t feel like spending any money that day, so I borrowed the Kindle Unlimited version of the story from Amazon.  Well, it […]

Do you believe that Pirates don’t takes baths and there are Groovicorns?

Pirates Don’t Take Baths by John Sega

Do You Believe in Groovicorns? by Rosie Greening

May 3, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Yesterday was a slow day at work. Therefore, I took a few minutes to look at the new crop of Sale Books that came in. (Long story short, they are just lovely normal books looking for a home, but just have a slightly lower price than usual). Two books that caught my attention were two board books. One, Pirates Don’t Take Baths by John Segal and the other, I actively went looking for as I had been the one to do the data entry on […]

A book so bad you quote a line from How the Grinch Stole Christmas! cartoon

I Love You Like a Pig by Mac Barnett

April 2, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I should take my own advice and say that, “This book stinks, stanks, stunk!” enough times to cover the 250-word requirement. When I saw Barnett’s book, I Love You Like a Pig, sitting there on the sale table bells went off. I still cannot remember why this book was in the back of my mind (other than it has gotten attention over the years), but I am not sure why it has gotten attention. I am sorry to say if I could give this book […]

Obviously when pigs fly…..

October 25, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The saving grace for The Dreamer is at the very end. I liked the “full circle” of the pig “admiring the birds” at the start and finish. The in-between is what I am not crazy about. The theme of “keep trying” and “making mistakes” has been done. Many times. The only difference here is that the friends and neighbors of the pig help him. Usually the “keep trying” is seen as a solo act. And the pig listens to the other animals. That seemed like […]

Off on a Pignic

April 19, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

What a day for a picnic! Blue skies and shady trees to climb and a kite to fly up high. Not to mention lots of siblings and parents to play with. And of course, very yummy food. It is the perfect day for climbing those trees and flying that kite (even if they do have to find one unique way to get some wind). And even a little rain does not dampen the Pig Family Picnic! The adults will enjoy the plot twists and the […]
