Exactly what I bloodydamn well needed

March 23, 2018 by lowercasesee 1 Comment

Sack up, you slagging pixies. We’re back. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve visited Darrow’s worlds – I needed some recovery time after Morning Star broke my heart and shat all over the pieces. I just hadn’t been emotionally ready for a reread. So I went into Iron Gold a little blind which was nice in some ways and not so nice in others. The book also starts suuuper slow but once it finally gathers momentum and starts running, it goes full Juggernaut, barreling through walls and […]

This Has All Happened Before and It Will All Happen Again

March 8, 2018 by Jen K 2 Comments

I loved the original three books of The Red Rising Saga so I was very excited when I saw that Pierce Brown had written a fourth novel to add to the series.  And yet, despite pre-ordering it, I was hesitant to start reading it. While a revolution and complete upheaval of the social order will naturally lead to growing pains, sometimes it’s better to hope the heroes figured it out rather than go back and see how much has gone wrong.  As fun as The […]

The MPAA rating of this book should be R(R).

I’ve been wanting to read this book for a few years and I was in between books so I finally checked it out.  As an aside, then four other books became available from my queue so I have quite the backlog of reading to do at the moment.  I digress. I loved this book.  I enjoyed it so much that while listening to it, I sought out the ebook so that I could read it in between commutes.  It was a fun and exciting read. […]

More Pink, Please

November 27, 2017 by Gracey the Giant Leave a Comment

So, this was a re-read of this series for me and I have to say that I loved it as much this time as I did the first time around. Pierce Brown created an absolutely fascinating world for this series, and he did so beautifully. The books center on Darrow, a “Red” who works in the mines below the surface of Mars. The Reds are mining a material that will allow Mars to be terraformed so that humans can successfully colonize it. It is important work […]

My enemies are too great. Too many. And I too weak.

August 31, 2016 by borisanne Leave a Comment

When I hit the top of the wait-list and was notified by the library that this book was finally available, I was so excited that I actually took a screengrab and texted it to a friend. And it doesn’t disappoint. I will admit that I was vaguely disappointed, but really only because this series has only ever broken new ground in my brain the once, and that was with the first book. A little disappointing, but totally understandable. And come on, if it had changed […]
