“Had me in the first half, I’m not going to lie..”

Perils of Pleasure by Julie Anne Long

Like No Other Lover by Julie Anne Long

Since the Surrender by Julie Anne Long

I Kissed An Earl by Julie Anne Long

What I Did for A Duke by Julie Anne Long

May 30, 2025 by NTE 3 Comments

Making my way through the Pennyroyal Green series by Julie Anne Long, but dependent upon the library, so, while I’ve read these all this year, they weren’t exactly in order.  Luckily, I’ve been keeping notes. Now that the top five are covered, I figured I’d put out this half of the reviews. Spoilers abound! Perils of Pleasure – Colin Eversea is trouble – but it’s rogue-ish trouble, typically – And yet, we find our hero headed for the hangman’s noose, literally, about to hang for a […]

A Romance Classic

What I Did For a Duke (Pennyroal Green, #5) by Julie Anne Long

July 6, 2021 by narfna 3 Comments

**30 Books in 30 Days** Book 6/30 This was very, very good. There isn’t *really* a plot, but in this case, that’s a good thing. What this is, is a character piece. The movement of the story comes with the evolution of the characters’ feelings for each other. (Much in the way comedies of manners do it.) It’s got a great set-up, though. Alex Moncrieffe, the Duke of Falconbridge, finds his fiancé in bed with Ian Eversea, and chases Eversea out the window, buck-ass nude. […]

“It isn’t a weakness to accept kindness. It isn’t a weakness to allow yourself to be cared for.”

What I Did for a Duke (Pennyroyal Green #5) by Julie Anne Long

January 23, 2021 by faintingviolet 4 Comments

I was inspired by last year’s reviews of What I Did for a Duke by Emmalita and Malin to move this one up my to read list. I’m still struggling in 2021 with finding my ability to sink into books and last year I was able to most easily focus on Romance novels, so I was comfortable betting the same would be true now. It had been quite awhile since I was actively seeking time to dive back into a book, and What I Did […]

Still just as good as I remembered it

What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long

February 18, 2020 by Malin 2 Comments

I first read and reviewed this book back in 2011 (when it came out), during Cannonball III. My original review, which among other things contains a plot summary, can be found here. If you do take a look at my previous review (or just check my rating of this book), you can see that the rather unlikely romance between Miss Genevieve Eversea Lord Alexander Moncrieffe, the Duke of Falconbridge is one of my absolute favourites. I loved it utterly when I first read it back in […]

Didn’t really work for me, but will give the author a couple more tries. Yes, Malin and Mrs. J, I will be reading #5 next :)

The Perils of Pleasure (Pennyroyal Green, #1) by Julie Anne Long

December 20, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

This just never really clicked for me. I’m going to try a couple more books by this author and see how it goes, though. I had a good enough time with it, but I never really connected with the characters outside of a handful of moments, and I didn’t think the main couple really connected with each other, either. I also felt the central premise was kind of wasted. It started out pretty great. I like the concept of the feuding families being the center […]

An old favorite is still great on another read through

March 21, 2017 by Ellepkay 4 Comments

I have read this book several times before, but I’ve never reviewed it, so here we are!  The other day I was going to ask the lovely CBR romance ladies for a recommendation.  I wanted a historical with a house party, good banter, not too many outside plot distractions…and was going to cite this book as an example of what I wanted.  Then I realized that I really just wanted to read this one again (but other suggestions that meet that criteria are always welcome!).  […]
