“You mean because you’re built like the Abominable Snowman and I’m the size of the Sugar Plum Fairy?”

Cruel Winter With You by Ali Hazelwood

Merry Ever After by Tessa Bailey

All By My Elf by Olivia Dade

Merriment and Mayhem by Alexandria Bellefleur

Only Santas in the Building by Alexis Daria

Amazon has put out a holiday collection of five stories that is free to Prime members, and it grabbed my attention when Olivia Dade publicized that she had a story in the collection (Ali Hazelwood, Tessa Bailey, Alexandria Bellefleur, and Alexis Daria are the other authors). I requested an ARC and was granted it, so here we are with me reading a holiday collection earlier than I normally would because we all deserve nice things when the world feels like it is crashing down. Cruel […]

Elves, Santas & Mayhem

All by My Elf by Olivia Dade

Merriment and Mayhem by Alexandria Bellefleur

Only Santas in the Building by Alexis Daria

For someone who is pretty meh about the winter holidays, I sure do love to read holiday romances. They have to be a certain kind of holiday romance though. No the magic of the season made me love life again stories. In these three Christmas shorts, Christmas festivities bring the characters together, but the holiday isn’t the reason they fall in love. Olivia Dade’s All by My Elf is a classic Dade novella. It’s got sweetness, spice, a realistic portrayal of adjunct faculty life, double […]

A Pair of Romance Reviews

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

All the Feels by Olivia Dade

February 13, 2024 by Tracy 1 Comment

The Wedding Date Like many books I’ve been reading lately, especially the romances, I’m pretty sure this came across my radar because of other Cannonballers. It’s the story of Alexa and Drew, who meet in an elevator and have some time to get to know each other when the elevator gets stuck. Drew is in town for his ex’s wedding and doesn’t have a date, and he impulsively asks Alexa to be his date. She agrees. Drew isn’t interested in having a girlfriend, and he […]

Size Inclusivity in Romance

Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade

December 12, 2023 by Tracy 2 Comments

This romance centers on April and Marcus. April is heavily involved in the Gods of the Gates fandom (a Game of Thrones type of show) and decides to post a picture on Twitter of herself in cosplay. Because she is fat, because the character she is cosplaying as is not, and because there is still a lot of socially approved fatphobia in the world, she gets a lot negative comments (though she also gets a lot of positive reinforcement from other comments, which is nice). […]

“Dr. Matthew Vine,” she said, then raised a mocking eyebrow. “The Third. How wonderful.”

What do you do when your fiancé dumps you after you quit your job and bought him the Spite House of his dreams? Athena Greyson moves to into the spite house in Harlot Bay, finds a job and starts rebuilding her life. The problem is, the spite house is very very close to her ex’s brother’s house. Ship Wrecked (Spoiler Alert, #3) by Olivia Dade

December 31, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

Ship Wrecked is the third and final book in Olivia Dade’s series about actors from a Game of Thrones-esque TV show finding love. This one follows co-stars Maria and Peter, who film alone on a small Irish island for six years, and build an intense bond. I continue to like not love this series, unfortunately. I’m hoping eventually I will wholeheartedly five-star love a book by Olivia Dade again (the only one so far is the excellent Teach Me) but it hasn’t happened. I suppose […]
