One sweet, slow burn romance and one mafia story with too many plot lines

Punk-In: MM Rockstar Romance (Wayward Lane Book 1) by Ava Olsen

Three Souls Who Break (Three Ties Book 1) by Michelle Dare

Punk-In: MM Rockstar Romance (Wayward Lane Book 1) By Ava Olson 3 stars Brodie is the lead singer of the rock band, “Wayward Lane.” He is out and, per his own admission, is a “fuckboy.” His manager Van is straight, and they work and tour together for four years as Brodie’s band becomes more and more popular. The tension in this book is excellent. It switches between Brodie’s and Van’s POVs. Brodie has a huge crush on Van, but worries that Van will think Brodie […]

Sometimes when you’re trapped in a heat wave you need to read a book where the characters are even hotter

Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews

July 20, 2022 by GentleRain Leave a Comment

CBR14Bingo: Scandal My second Mary Kay Andrews book and another satisfying summer read. Andrews writes a fun mix of romance, family drama, and mystery, all of which combine to keep the plot moving at a fast pace. I noticed that a lot of the chapters were three pages long, which also added to the zippy feel of the book. This was an ideal book to consume during a historic heatwave, as I kept telling myself that at least I wasn’t as hot as the main […]

Love was the last thing on their minds

Destiny's Captive by Beverly Jenkins

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon

December 21, 2020 by teresaelectro 6 Comments

Romance has been a great salve for the general pandemic malaise. I’ve been loving own voices books featuring Black protagonists finding love, even when it was absolutely the last thing on their minds. These three novels all written by Black women were refreshing and reminded me why I love this genre. I absolutely love reading about an independent woman who falls in love with a sexy man who has his act together. I picked up Destiny’s Captive by Beverly Jenkins from the library. I had […]

A fake relationship that works!

If I never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane

November 27, 2020 by Nart Leave a Comment

I’m a sucker for a well told fake relationship trope. It is one of these story format that is incredibly hard to get right because of how ludicrous the very idea is, at least if you’re past the age of making decisions with a mind addled with teenage hormones.  The set up is key to the believability, and McFarlane nails it.  Plot: sort of boring woman works for regressive, sexist company. She has been immune to a lot of the really nasty stuff that goes […]

This one time, at office camp…

January 13, 2017 by FyreHaar 5 Comments

(NB – This is the earliest I think I’ve ever gotten my first review up, Quarter Cannonball, here I come!) Like many of you, I read The Hating Game and I loved it! So fun, so sweet (so didn’t write a review)! If you too loved The Hating Game, get on this book. Lucy and Evans work together at Burke Consulting Group. I love that the people in this series of books do real work. They are a consulting firm that helps municipalities do stuff […]
