Where are my footnotes?

Freakonomics by Steven Levitt, Stephen Dubner

October 22, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Firstly, every chapter in the book opens with some reference to the brilliance of the economist author (the other author is a journalist); granted Steven Levitt does seem pretty unconventional as an economist and I do think his novel approach leads to really interesting insights. However, the repeated reminders of his brilliance start to get irritating. The […]

Good Omens meets NPR

Miracle Workers by Simon Rich

March 24, 2019 by octothorp 1 Comment

You guys, you guys! Read this book! Read all of Simon Rich’s books, but read this one first.  I hadn’t known until finishing this one that he wrote for the Simpsons, but it made sense. I read it in one sitting (or as close to one sitting as I get these days, I read it in two kraken naps in a 24 hour period so I’m calling it.) It’s like first-ten-season-Simpsons mixed with NPR had […]

So when I heard that Peter Sagal, longtime host of one of the more entertaining talk options “Wait […]

This I Believe

October 10, 2015 by bonnie 1 Comment

There are two types of people in the world: those who remember high school with great fondness, and those who remember college with great fondness. I fall into that latter camp. I hated high school with my entire being, and I found the person I was meant to be in college. I knew that I had wanted to be an English major, but I didn’t know the incredible potential resting within me until my incredible faculty and friends helped me unleash it. I never even […]
