Milan back on excellent form

April 16, 2016 by Malin 3 Comments

Daisy Whitlaw has an almost impossible dream. She wants to open her own shop, selling affordable everyday luxuries for everyday women, but to do so, she needs money, which she doesn’t have. Daisy’s father is dead and her mother is ailing, and Daisy can barely make enough money working as an assistant in a flower shop to make ends meet for them. Her best friend Judith recently married a marquess, but there is no way that Daisy would ask her for a loan, she wants […]

Her Every Wish by Courtney Milan

March 30, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 12 Comments

Courtney Milan Iconoclast … is what I assume Ms. Milan’s business cards say. Could she please to stop almost bringing me to tears with her messages of empowerment and self-determination? Why almost? Because I am made of steel. Why tears? Because the truths she writes about touch me deeply. Her Every Wish is the first novella in Milan’s new Worth Saga Victorian romance series. In the long-term, it will contain eight books for us to devour, for now there is just one other novel, Once […]

Short But Very Sweet

March 26, 2016 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

I am the World Book Day Book Fairy. I thought I ordered one copy of the book; I actually received closer to 4 dozen from the book depository. I am not the only person this happened to, as the internet has let me know, and somehow I think it was on purpose, that we were led to believe we were getting one, and got so many more so that we would have the opportunity to send the book further out into the world. I had […]

A Promising New (to me) Author

March 4, 2016 by Ellepkay 2 Comments

This book was a very pleasant surprise and a reminder of why I keep taking chances with new authors.  I don’t remember where I heard about Kelly Bowen, but I think she appeared on one of those “If you like ____, then you might like _____” lists.  My library does not have any of her books, and they cost more than I am willing to pay for a new author.  But, this little novella was only $1, so I decided to go for it. Viola […]

A Wounded Hero Done Very Well

February 29, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 3 Comments

There are a lot of wounded heroes in romance novels, but His Road Home must be the first one I’ve read in which we meet the hero straight from the battlefield. Often, the men are well away from their traumatizing experience, left with a dramatic facial scar or bad dreams that can be eased by the love of the right woman and heal them. This contemporary romance novella is not that book. While serving in Afghanistan, Rey Cruz invented a fiancee to simplify a negotiation. To bolster his story, […]

A surprise book published without any fanfare whatsoever, because Brandon Sanderson is the Beyoncé of epic fantasy.

February 18, 2016 by narfna Leave a Comment

Brandon Sanderson is ridiculous. He’s all, here’s a surprise novella, and no big deal, the entire thing is made up of such game-changing ridiculous nonsense, you won’t even think it’s real as you’re reading it! You know, just been writing it since 2004 and stuff. It only gives you the most information on the Cosmere that has been released yet. It only changes a shit ton of stuff we assumed about the original trilogy and the Wax and Wayne books. NBD. Make no mistake here. […]
