The Golden Raven | TSC Book 2

The Golden Raven by Nora Sakavic

March 9, 2025 by lastmidtownshow Leave a Comment

Jean Moreau is shaping up to be one of my favourite YA protagonists of all time. He has managed to sneak his way into first place in my rankings of AFTG characters, beating out my beloved Neil Josten. The Golden Raven – the second book in the still-unnamed sister trilogy to All For The Game – was exactly what I hoped it would be. The story easily follows what was set up in the previous book, and gives us much more of a world to work with. The […]

Injured In A Scrimmage | Jean Moreau and The Sunshine Court

The Sunshine Court by Nora Sakavic

I read the ‘All For The Game’ series at the end of 2024, and instantly became captivated by the world within. Messy, full of gaping plot holes, and in some parts entirely nonsensical, and yet you cannot look away. Or stop thinking about it. Or stop loving the characters and their love for each other. The Sunshine Court – the first book in a second trilogy – is more polished and thought-out, but loses none of the charm and dramatics that make ‘All For The […]

It’s hard to kill a man when everyone’s eyes are on him. Make them love you, make them hate you. I don’t care. Just make them look at you. ― Nora Sakavic, The King’s Men “The court doesn’t care what my name is or where I’m from or where I’ll be tomorrow. It lets me exist as I am.” ― Nora Sakavic, The King’s Men “Everything I needed, you already gave me. You let me stay.” ― Nora Sakavic, The King’s Men The name of […]

Surprisingly enjoyed this; what a comeback.

The King's Men (All for the Game, #3) by Nora Sakavic

This was the best one in the series by far, but it still has its issues. I feel like a good (tough) editor could have made this series really great. This ended as well as it could have, given the build up (how’s that for damning with faint praise!) and the foundation the story was built on (basically drama and unrealistic understanding of human emotion and the way the world works). Yet, part of me does want to round up to four stars, because it […]

Somewhere in the multiverse there is a universe where this series had an editor, and the me that lives there gave this book five stars.

The Raven King (All for the Game, #2) by Nora Sakavic

This series is so frustrating. Promising story arcs ruined by utter nonsense. At least this one was more readable. What’s particularly frustrating is that I’m finally seeing glimpses of why so many people are out of their minds for this series, but every time I see those glimpses, something so utterly nonsensical or wrong pops up and ruins everything. Also, she still isn’t a great writer. So much unnecessary description (we don’t need to know where all characters are at all times when in a […]

This was a hot, sloppy mess.

The Foxhole Court (All for the Game, #1) by Nora Sakavic

If you’re not aware of this book, a while back this series started making the rounds on Tumblr. It’s entirely self-published, and managed to break through somehow. It follows a team of college athletes playing a made-up sport called Exy at a fictional university called Palmetto State. The main character is the son of a crime lord and has been on the run for most of his life; he is living under a fake identity when he’s recruited. He also happens to have been childhood […]
