Heavy on the 90s Music Nostalgia

Heavy Vinyl: Y2K-0! by Carly Usdin

July 4, 2020 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo Square 1: Music Heavy Vinyl: Y2K-O! could actually have fit more than one square, but I wanted to start in a corner, and Music is what I’d slotted it for, so this is where it all starts. This is book 2 in a graphic novel series that is set in a music store, whose employees form a band and compete in a battle of the bands, and who investigate wrong-doing or dishonesty in the music business. I liked volume 1 but I think either […]

Heavy Vinyl – not so heavy on plot but still fun!

Heavy Vinyl: Riot on the Radio by Carly Usdin, Nina Vakueva, Irene Flores

Heavy Vinyl appears to have gone through some adjustments over its publication.  Its title was originally Hi-Fi Fight Club and then for some reason they changed the name of the record store it is set in from Vinyl Mayhem to Vinyl Destination. I haven’t read or seen Fight Club, but this seems […]

Breaking the first rule of Fight Club

May 5, 2018 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Originally, Heavy Vinyl was titled Hi Fi Fight Club. This will be important in a minute or two. The basic premise of this graphic novel, originally a short series of comic books now bundled and bound as a set, is cute and light hearted. Teenage Chris has recently gotten her dream job at the local record shop Vinyl Destination. She wants to become a musician and she has a crush on one coworker (peppy Maggie), idolizes her boss (Irene), adores older co-worker (Kennedy), and would […]
