This novel could have been an embroidered pillow (and also a rant about unnecessary italics)

The Measure by Nikki Erlick

CBR 17 BINGO: Rec’d as I’ve seen this book recommended by a number of Goodreads reviews. I should have known on page 2 of this novel that I wasn’t going to enjoy it, because in that brief span of time the author had already italicized three words for emphasis. You may think that’s petty of me, but hold that thought–I’ll get back to it. The premise of The Measure is this: One spring day, everyone over the age of 22 wakes up to find a […]

“The middle had always been left undetermined, to be woven and shaped by us.”

The hints were there all along, the font is harsh, the literal string, but I went in knowing nothing. It was a selection of my library book club, and it was definitely an emotional roller coaster. The premise is this, and I’m not giving away much because […]

The Measure by Nikki Erlick

Best for: Those who love a meaty philosophical explorations about the meaning of life and the decisions we make. In a nutshell: One morning, everyone age 22 and older in the entire world receives a box that says ‘The measure of your life lies within.’ Society quickly learns the strings inside correlate with how long each person will live. Worth quoting: “Since the strings arrived, so many of our conversations are about such big, heavy ideas, literally life and death. And I miss talking about […]

What is the measure of your life?

The Measure by Nikki Erlick

April 5, 2024 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So I think I was late to the game on this one. Apparently it was a tiktok sensation or something. I’m not on tiktok, so I had no idea. I went to read some reviews after I finished it and was surprised to see that it had been out for a while and had lots of reviews. My BFF Connie recommended it to my sister and I at the end of last year. I love Connie so much, but she tends to suggest “sad person […]
