Vampires as in Monsters and Vampires as in Monsters-But-Anglos

Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas*

June 17, 2023 by Flimflamingo 3 Comments

*Note: My alt key and other shortcuts for the “enye” tilde over the “n” of the author’s name is not functioning but her name is Isabel Canas pronounced “Can-yas”. This is the first time I’ve been a person to review a book for the first time on Canonball Read break out the champagne. Vampires of El Norte is an upcoming title from Isabel Canas* and it looks like this is her lane. It’s a great lane. Historical fiction with horror elements – if not fully […]

A very long book for an ending I did not expect.

Icebreaker by Hannah Grace

December 12, 2022 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

This was a really strange read. It felt like reading fanfic, but not the good fanfic, the fanfic that people think you get when you read fanfic – really long and pointlessly indulgent. This was going to be a 3 star read, because even though it needed a lot of editing, and 150 fewer pages, it wasn’t horrible. And then I got to the end and was so confused as to what the point had been and why so many plot lines were left loose. […]

How to Excavate a Heart by Jake Maia Arlow

October 30, 2022 by LB Leave a Comment

How to Excavate a Heart is a book that hit so many good and familiar notes for me. Shani has just finished her first semester at college where she also got her first girlfriend, who broke up with her just before the start of winter break. Luckily Shani got accepted to an internship that the Smithsonian museum of natural history where she’ll work under her idol on coelacanth fossils, giving her distance from home and something to put her focus towards that isn’t her broken […]

July 30, 2022 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars CBR14 Bingo: Bodies (Cath and Levi become a lot more aware of each other’s bodies in this volume – not like THAT. Get your mind out of the gutter!) Cath has started getting more comfortable at college and with her classes, but she still finds it difficult to reconcile the fact that her twin, Wren, is having such a great time without her. Wren is embracing the party lifestyle and seems to spend a lot of evenings out drinking with her roommate. Meanwhile, […]

The Frozen Crown by Greta Kelly

The Seventh Crown by Greta Kelly

February 7, 2022 by Claudia Leave a Comment

This is a pretty fun new adult fantasy duology that I enjoyed quite a bit and really don’t see recommend a lot! Continue to read for reviews for both the first and second book! The Frozen Crown This is going to be a pretty short review because I am not sure how to get into this book without spoiling the HELL out of it and I don’t want to do that. SO here we go The Frozen Crown follows our heroine, Askia, the rightful queen […]
