… and Featuring the World’s Largest Plot Moppet

March 17, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 8 Comments

A follow-up to the new adult romance Him, Us follows up five months later with Ryan “Wes” Wesley and Jamie Canning. Living together in Toronto as Wes skates through a stellar NHL rookie season (doomed to failure and disappointment as the Leafs haven’t won the Stanley Cup since the year I was born) and Jamie is establishing his career as a coach. They don’t get to spend enough time together and when they do, the are constrained by the need to mask their relationship. Wes just […]

He’s Not Actually a Liar – A Contemporary Romance

February 22, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 4 Comments

Finally, a Christina Lauren couple that doesn’t scream the house down in the throes of passion. Quiet people need love, too. In the first three books of the new adult romance Wild Seasons series, each of a trio of close friends made impulsive marriages on a graduation trip to Las Vegas. The aftermath of each of these choices was the basis for Mia, Harlow, and Lola’s novels. Book four brings Lola’s surfer roommate, London, to the fore and pairs her with Mia’s ex-boyfriend, Luke. I […]

Going Full Boar on the Reformation of the Rake

February 18, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 2 Comments

This romance novel takes the historical niche’s Reformation of the Rake plot full boar with its contemporary counterpart, in this case in a new adult story, The Pig Becomes a Person. Romance novels have a limited number of tropes, to which I have no objection, but there is one, The Reformation of the Rake, which has to be handled particularly carefully. The hero, who generally has been shagging anything that moves finds a magical woman who, often in their first encounter, so rocks his libidinous world that […]

Ladies, if your vagina is magical enough, you can make him want to change.

January 14, 2016 by Emmalita 21 Comments

In the past few months, I’ve read more about collegiate sports than I could have ever imagined, given my total lack of interest in sports. But thanks to Elle Kennedy, Kristin Callihan and Sarina Bowen, I know more about hockey and football than I would like, and I have some sports playing fictional boyfriends. The Score is the third book in Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series. The series explores the lives and loves of four college hockey players, who share a house – off campus. Elle […]

New Adult Romance with a Tatted Lumbersexual

The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan

November 25, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 10 Comments

The Game Plan is the third novel in the Game On series about football players and the women that climb them. I loved this new adult romance. I LOVED IT even after getting annoyed with the author, Kristen Callihan, about her The Pig Becomes a Person plot in The Friend Zone.  I loved it so much that it started as a loan from a good friend and I went ahead and bought myself a copy that I have since re-read. Fiona Mackenzie’s father and sister […]

Read Sarina Bowen’s Other Ivy Years Books Instead

October 23, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 9 Comments

The final book in Sarina Bowen’s Ivy Series is a bit of a head scratcher and one in which the author’s intent seemed clear, but I don’t think she managed the very delicate balancing act she had decided to undertake, but first let me praise the other five books in the Ivy Years series and emphatically recommend buying all of them immediately: The Year We Fell Down – BAM! This book got me right in the feels. The Year We Hid Away – That’s a […]
