Ace and Rory Return

Starcrossed by Allie Therin

April 29, 2020 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Starcrossed is a sequel to Spellbound and in no way stands on it’s own. We dive right in to the continuing adventures of Rory and Arthur (aka Ace). As the book opens, they have left Manhattan and are spending time at Ace’s brother’s family home, where Rory and Ace can’t let anyone know they are a couple. As much as they were able to resolve in Spellbound, they live in a world hostile to gay men. Ace has too high a social profile to be even […]

In the Middle of the Adventure

Starbreaker by Amanda Bouchet

April 21, 2020 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I received the second book in Amanda Bouchet’s Endeavor series from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I started reading right before the pandemic shut everything down. It took me a month to get through the first two chapters. That’s not the book’s fault, it’s my brain. Once I was actually able to focus on the book, I enjoyed it. Starbreaker is a middle book and does not stand on it’s own, nor is much resolved. Characters evolve and the plot moves forward, but […]

A Lovely Light Vacation Romance with a Content Warning

Island Affair by Priscilla Oliveras

April 21, 2020 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I received Island Affair by Priscilla Oliveras from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. It was a lovely read and a nice vacation from sheltering in my house. There are a couple of heavier things about it that I’ll get into later. Since both come up early in the book, there won’t be spoilers. Luis is a third generation Cuban American Key West native and like his father, brothers, and sister a member of the Key West Fire Department. His captain has just made him […]

The bloom has come off the Rose

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

April 8, 2020 by J 1 Comment

Naomi Westfield is engaged to be married to the handsome, thoughtful Nicholas Rose. They are a saccharine pair, complete with their own wedding hashtag (#TrueLovesKissFromARose) and schmoopy social media posts. Naomi has a dark secret, though: she despises Nick and desperately wants out. But she can’t really afford to initiate the break-up, so she has to get Nick to want to leave her. And away we go. I look at Nicholas and realize I am actually marrying this man. Forty percent because I love him […]

Reclaiming the Sex Appeal of Mr. Collins

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon

March 12, 2020 by Emmalita 6 Comments

Just look at this gorgeous cover. I follow Farrah Rochon on twitter, where she is a delight. I have been hearing excellent things about The Boyfriend Project, so I was excited to see it available for request on NetGalley. This is an honest review in exchange for an arc. Often when starting a book by a new to me author, it takes me a bit to get into the rhythm of their writing. I didn’t have that problem with The Boyfriend Project. Samiah Brooks is […]

Procrastination Made Tasty

Procrastibaking: 100 Recipes for Getting Nothing Done in the Most Delicious Way Possible by Erin Gardner

March 3, 2020 by Emmalita 2 Comments

I am both a life long baker and a life long procrastinator. I have certainly engaged in procrastibaking – the baking you do to avoid doing the things you need to do. When I saw Erin Gardner’s Procrastibaking: 100 Recipes for Getting Nothing Done in the Most Delicious Way Possible, on NetGalley, I knew I needed to read it. This is an honest review in exchange for an arc. There is a lot to love about Procrastibaking and a couple of things I didn’t love. In […]
