Cannonball Read After Dark: Surprise!

Best Women's Erotica of the Year, Volume 7 by Rachel Kramer Bussel

November 26, 2021 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

You can trust that Rachel Kramer Bussel is going to put together a good anthology. Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Volume 7 is thoughtful with a wide range of stories. I don’t expect to like every story in an anthology, and erotica is tougher because it taps into a place that can be rawly personal. When Kramer Bussel puts an anthology together, I know I will at least appreciate most of the stories. My only complaint about the book is one I frequently have about […]

The Territorial Lecherous Moth and The Dangerous Marshmallow

Proper Scoundrels by Allie Therin

November 26, 2021 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Proper Scoundrels is a spin off from Therin’s Magic in Manhattan series. The adventures of Sebastian and Lord Fine won’t make much sense if you haven’t read the series, but you should read the series. It is excellent and Therin built a wonderful world while writing it. I’m so glad she’s writing past Arthur and Rory, and that we get to spend more time with Jade and Zhang. Wesley, Lord Fine, feels separated from the world by his title, and by his experience as a […]

A Romance All About Expectations

The Life Revamp by Kris Ripper

November 20, 2021 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

I received an ARC from Carina Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The Life Revamp publishes November 30th, 2021. This was a first for me, a romance featuring a polyamorous relationship, but one I had been looking for. Kris Ritter’s The Life Revamp tells the story of Mason, who wants to fall in love, get married and live happily ever after. You know, live the fairytale a little. His luck has been less than stellar, including being left at the alter as […]

Roxy by Neal Shusterman, Jarrod Shusterman

I don’t think I’ve ever positively reviewed a book I haven’t finished, but this here’s going to be the first. Because I’m the kind of person who can’t rewatch the Scott’s Tots episode of The Office, and who cringes just thinking about that one scene in On His Way to the Wedding (by Julia Quinn: Spoiler for a Bridgerton book ahead) when Gregory professes his love in front of all of London, and … it does not go well.  I just sometimes get to a point […]

Too Much Man by Katy James

November 11, 2021 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Gavin Williams is having a bad month. He wakes up hungover, in pain, and not ready to face the sudden end of his hockey career. On the advice of his teammate, Carlos, Gavin limps down to the local coffee shop to try coffee as a hangover cure. Unfortunately, he doesn’t like coffee and he’s in a temper he doesn’t have a handle on. He immediately butts heads with Piper, the owner of the Friendly Bean, who is also having a bad day. It’s a spectacularly […]

“This sort of thing happens more and more as I age out of ‘attractive and unattached’ territory and into ‘destined to die a spinster’ territory.“
