Doppelganger

Doppelganger by Naomi Klein

March 10, 2025 by Fiat.Luxury 1 Comment

Are y’all watching Severance? Did you watch Dark Matter? Could I recommend Counterpart with J.K. Simmons and Olivia Williams? Have you seen Mr. Klein with Alain Delon? Surely you’ve seen Vertigo? How about Coherence? Look, what I am saying is that I love a doppelganger story. Published in 2023, Doppelganger is not exactly an under-the radar book. Naomi Klein, already a well-known author, has won several well-deserved awards for it. and I think it’s in a lot of people’s periphery, at least. In Doppelganger, Klein […]

Complex – Needs a Second Read

Doppelganger: A Trip Into the Mirror World by Naomi Klein

December 8, 2023 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: People interested in a novel way of looking at the complexities of modern politics. In a nutshell: Author Klein explores the different political realities people inhabit in areas as vast as vaccines and Middle East policies. Worth quoting: We are told that the way things are is the only way they can be, because every other model has supposedly already been tried, and all have failed. But these ideas about different ways of being and thinking and living did not all fail; rather, […]

The Coming Storm – Michael Lewis – 4/5 Stars This is a short essay/exploration of the topic of weather, the national government, and the use of data. Michael Lewis begins with the idea of how the government collects and stores data, and by this I mostly mean the kinds of data employed in government policies, administration, and the like. The easiest way to explain this in a broad way is to look at how little data was used in the prediction of weather until after […]

Half is Outdated, Half is Very Good

CBR 10 BINGO Square: Cannonballer Says Junebug. Check out their review here. Best for: People still looking for answers to how we got here (i.e. got Trump) and some thoughts on ways to move forward. In a nutshell: Trump’s election shouldn’t have been a surprise, and it doesn’t need to be the end of the world. Worth quoting: “If the goal is to move from a society based on endless taking and depletion to one based on caretaking and renewal, then all of our relationships […]

The Hour Calls For Optimism

January 15, 2018 by Junebug 1 Comment

I personally feel that everyone would be better off if they’ve read some Naomi Klein. Before recommending this book, however, I would start with her acclaimed 2007 book The Shock Doctrine. Read that first, and then read No Is Not Enough. It basically points out how Trump uses tactics laid out in The Shock Doctrine to achieve his agenda, and what that agenda really is. I haven’t read Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury yet, but from what I have heard it makes Trump and his […]
