Miss for me, hit for you?

Where Black Stars Rise by Nadia Shammas

January 23, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

CBR16SweetChallenge #Exciting (excited to read, excited to share with others becuase this needs to be read/known about) The concept of mental health and representation of a not usually talked about community had great potential. However, the execution of Where Black Stars Rise did not work for me. Things were too abstract and messy for my eyes to focus and my “reader eye” lost the flow of things. I was not always sure where I was, who was who and what was what. For the right […]

Suki, Alone (Avatar: The Last Airbender) by Faith Erin Hicks

If you know the series that features the Kyoshi Warrior, Suki, then you know that she was imprisoned for some time and this graphic novel explores that time as it was not explored in the show. As a story […]

Knight School and War

Squire by Sara Alfageeh

November 16, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I received my copy of Squire by Sara Alfageeh and Nadia Shammas through here. I was excited to read as it was a graphic novel, but also had a look of fantasy and historical, which is a genre I enjoy. However, it was not what I was expecting. I did notice that my feelings of the book changed from “this is new and fresh” to “we do have a new voice, but I know this story.” Also, I was being influenced by having just watch […]
