I think he liked to dance

Willi Ninja: Vogue Legend by Joy Michael Ellison

September 12, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When I need a quick read I head to my piles of reader copies. Sometimes I need to go to my online links and sometimes I have physical copies. This time it was an online reader copy for Willi Ninja: Vogue Legend by Joy Michael Ellison and illustrator Nabi H. Ali.   Due mid-May 2026 you’ll be just in time to learn about Willi Ninja and become inspired to dance like him in the hot summer nights. Yes, Mr. Ninja (not his real name) was […]

Dinosaurs and friends

Dinosaurs for Dylan by Tracy Gulovsen

Counting Up the Olive Tree : A Palestine Number Book by Golbarg Bashi

May 31, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have been finding samples in my online readers. And while that allows me access to so many titles, it also means I have to get the final copy but they are not due until November and October 2024! Yet, I am excited to share what I can, as you will need to be in line with me at the local independent bookstore getting copies.  Tracy Gulovsen and Renate Vermeulen-Potter have Dinosaurs for Dylan (due mid November 2024). It is a sweet story that I […]

If you have background these graphic novels rock

Suki, Alone (Avatar: The Last Airbender) by Faith Erin Hicks

Ms. Marvel: Stretched Thing (Original Graphic Novel) by Nadia Shammas

November 24, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Recently I picked up two graphic novels that were fun, but not necessarily making me hoot and holler. Oh, there were a few chuckles, but overall, just enjoyment. I started with Suki, Alone (Avatar: The Last Airbender) by the awesome Faith Erin Hicks and Peter Wartman. If you know the series that features the Kyoshi Warrior, Suki, then you know that she was imprisoned for some time and this graphic novel explores that time as it was not explored in the show. As a story […]

A special book with a Special message

Beautifully Me by Nabela Noor

September 24, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When I first saw Beautifully Me advertised, I thought it was either going to be a good and positive addition to the “I love Me” genre, or be terribly preachy, cliched and pushy. However, Nabela Noor made a book that, while I am not feeling OMG BEST EVER about it, I am on the this is a good addition to the I Love Me/Body Positive genre. Zubi is a Bangladeshi girl who is not your stereotypical “slim and trim pretty girl.” However, she sees nothing […]
