Cannonball! And, oof. I should have been done with this months ago, but I’m such a lazy reviewer. I put things off, because I want each review to be brilliant, but then all that happens is that I get behind, and everything I write is crap. And Agatha Christie deserves better than that. I thought I had reviewed this 11th book in the Marple series before I started the Marple-a-thon, but apparently I was wrong. So this is a good way to end the 2015 […]
Mrs. Bradley Mysteries
The only thing I really knew about Mrs. Bradley was that Diana Rigg played her on the television series. So I was surprised when she was described in the book as an ugly old hag! But I just kept picturing Diana Rigg when I was reading the story. A young girl has died at the convent of the Sisters of St. Peter. But was it an accident, suicide, or murder? Mrs. Bradley doesn’t get as much help as she would like from the nuns, but […]
I’ve never actually watched the show
I’m embarrassed to admit that I have never watched one minute of the Luther television series. I know a lot of people who love it, think it’s one of the better BBC shows to hit American tv sets. And then there’s the whole Idris Elba thing. But, Amazon had a deal (as they often do – and I’m sorry for not supporting local booksellers, but my Kindle is just so much easier, and I am very lazy). This is a stand alone prequel, and may […]
City of Mystery Book 5
This is the fifth book in the City of Mystery series – not sure if any of you have read them, but if you like mystery stories, it’s definitely a good series to try. Especially if you like historical mysteries, where people can’t just check on each other using cell phones and whatnot. Anyway, this installment has our fledgling forensics team from Scotland Yard visiting Edinburgh, which apparently has a lot of stone buildings. The group also encounters a guy named Arthur Conan Doyle – […]
The First Inspector Rutledge
In Warwickshire, Colonel Harris was out for a horseback ride, when he was shot and killed. His “last coherent thought was anger. Savage, wild, black fury ripped through him in one stark instant of realization before oblivion swept it all away. . . .” His reaction to the shotgun blast made him dig his spurs into his horse’s flanks. In London, a guy named Bowles finds out some dirt on Ian Rutledge. He wants to use it, but he doesn’t know how just yet. The […]
Doing this sorta out of order
Charles Todd is actually two people: the actual Charles Todd, and his mom Caroline. (Note to self: remind my son to write stories with me when he grows up). Their big character is Inspector Ian Rutledge, a copper who is suffering from PTSD (from WWI), who hears the voice of a soldier he was forced to kill in his head. The voice is in his head, not the soldier. Once again, Amazon had a Kindle deal on this particular book, so I picked up on […]
