Murder muddle maybe caused by drugs and other stuff

The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman

May 26, 2024 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

It might just be coincidence that I picked up The Last Devil to Die just as the tv cast was being announced, but I just need to ask how the heck is Pierce Brosnan Ron? Ron’s a grumpy rough around the edges old dude who does the right thing for his friends and fam, not James Bond. I can see Helen Mirren as Elizabeth though. Ok, I’m done now. Obviously, the story is a murder mystery, this time the Coopers Chase Thursday Murder Club has […]

Her Too?

Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly

May 24, 2024 by Jake Leave a Comment

Ok so this is actually one of the better Connelly books I’ve read. It definitely merits the 4-star. So why three? There’s just this one thing I can’t let go and I can’t discuss it without spoilers… Also, these spoilers are going to reference the #MeToo Movement and sexual assault in general. I won’t go into graphic detail but if any of that makes you uncomfortable, give it a pass… (Spoilers ahead) Ok so Connelly wrote this at the height of the #MeToo Movement. I […]

Summer of 1999

Home is Where The Bodies Are by Jeneva Rose (Author), January LaVoy (Narrator), Cassandra Campbell (Narrator), Brittany Pressley (Narrator), Andrew Eiden (Narrator)

May 21, 2024 by dreadpiratekel Leave a Comment

We sometimes (sort of jokingly but also sort of not) say in my immediate family that we only get together with the extended family when there is a wedding or when there is a funeral.  Big life events bring people together, and it is the passing of their mother (Laura) that brings the siblings in this novel back into each other’s orbits.  And once they are back in each other’s lives, old tensions start to rise, exacerbated by the little fact that, oh yeah, their […]

“Maybe the question shouldn’t be why am I doing this, but why isn’t everyone looking?”

Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner

May 8, 2024 by Pooja Leave a Comment

Frankie Elkin is a roving seeker of missing people, and in her latest case she’s come to Boston to discover what happened to Angelique Badeau, a Haitian teenager who vanished almost a year ago. Like she does to the cops and the community, Frankie first struck me as strange and perhaps untrustworthy but like she did with them she grew on me too. She’s a flawed person with no illusions about it, and her steadfast pursuit of the missing won me over during the course […]
