The Beginning of the End Hopefully Doesn’t Go On For Too Long

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes vol. 12 by Hideyuki Furuhashi, Betten Court, Kohei Horikoshi

August 27, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo 13: Series My Hero Academia is a pretty popular well-known manga series; surprisingly it’s main manga spin-off is also quite popular; usually the spin-off is only kinda popular or short-lived. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is kind of a prequel and it’s recently concluded, although I’m not quite to that point myself. Volume 12 definitely seems like it’s part of a final arc though, especially since a good chunk of it is what I suspect is meant to be revealing backstory. I’m guessing that giving […]

When fan fics get old

My Hero Academia: Team Up Missions 2 by Yoko Akiyama

January 8, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Sometimes with popular series, when the author starts branching out into side series’, it can get a little overdone. My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions started out what felt like the fan fics they basically are but entertaining. This does mean you need to know at least something of he main series; in this case, I do. Volume 2 of the Team-Up Missions spin-off continues that effect but it’s not nearly as entertaining. Why? Because the scenarios and combinations just aren’t all that interesting, and in […]

Yet another side series but this one works

My Hero Academia Team Up Missions vol 1 by Yoko Akiyama

March 7, 2021 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I have lost track of the My Hero Academia spin-offs; there’s at least 3 that I can think of, and now here’s number four: My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions. Basically, it’s an excuse to put random characters together and have a little fun. I liked this collection because it is more on the light side, and the main series is getting darker by the moment. Some of the scenarios and pairings are not that original like Bakugo and Deku to see if they can manage […]

Hero School Shenanigans

My Hero Academia: School Briefs (v4) by Kohei Horikoshi, Anri Yoshi

March 28, 2020 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I have realized something about novelizations and short story collections based on manga/anime: I prefer the episodes that don’t refer to something directly from the main series. Just for the record, stories that started as novels and then got turned into the other forms are something else entirely, not this. This is My Hero Academia: School Briefs 4. Basically it’s a series of short stories mainly linked to episodes from the manga; at least I’m pretty sure since I’m not totally caught up with the […]
