It all started with a private jet

September 15, 2017 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So I randomly picked this audiobook out at my local library.  I was there with my nieces to read to dogs. Sidebar – my library has this awesome program where young readers can read whatever book they want to therapy dogs.  It’s awesome, and my seven year old niece looks forward to it every month! This is her reading Dragons Love Tacos to one of the dogs a few months ago.             Aaaaanyway, back to this book.  I realized after […]

Fair is Foul, and Foul is Fair

I cannot tell a lie, dear reader: This is, technically, another cozy mystery.   But it’s an awful lot more fun than the Scottish Play.

An ugly, ugly book

August 14, 2017 by Lindzgrl 4 Comments

I’ll open this review by saying I have a very low tolerance for books or movies that feature torture. I just don’t want those images in my head. I don’t want to think about the fact that human beings do such depraved and terrible things to other human beings. I don’t want to think about the fact that people’s last hours have been filled with pain and horror initiated by the whims of another person. I don’t even want to think about how an author […]

Would You Know if You Lived in Captivity?

August 10, 2017 by Melina 1 Comment

Trigger warning: Rape/captivity Helena Pelletier is just about as happy and at peace in her life as she can be.  She has a loving husband, two daughters whom she loves, a jam making business and strong connection to nature and the world around her.  In the first chapter or two, I was seriously envious, then the other shoe drops and we learn that Helena has been keeping secrets about her past.  Now, due to her father escaping from prison (after fashioning a shiv out of […]

You’re in a cult, call your dad

July 30, 2017 by TheShitWizard Leave a Comment

Evie Boyd is the 14 year old daughter of separated and uninterested parents, whose imagination is caught one day by the sight of three girls – carefree and unselfconsciously different to everyone that surrounds her – walking through her boring, suburban life and, through a chance encounter, is slowly drawn onto the periphery of life at The Ranch, with its supposedly freewheeling lifestyle and charismatic leader, Russell. Drawn especially to Suzanne, one of The Girls that surrounds Russell, Evie watches from the sidelines as things […]

Short and satisfying beach read

July 24, 2017 by kella Leave a Comment

Picked this up off a paperback sale rack when I was looking for a light, easy, vacation read – and it didn’t disappoint. Cecilia accidentally stumbles upon a sealed envelope in her attic – addressed to her by her husband, with the instructions to only open it after his death.  The problem is that her husband is very much alive, and when she asks him about it, it is very clear that he doesn’t want her to open it.   Naturally she does, and discovers […]
