Kentucky Dynasty

December 21, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

This is the last book in the Bourbon Kings trilogy, and the whole series is an over the top soap opera tale of a Kentucky bourbon dynasty.  It’s not a book you can read on its own, so much of the action occurred with the first two books, and this one wraps up the mystery and gives characters their send off into the sunset.  If you were a fan of Dynasty or Dallas back in the day, you’d probably enjoy the insanity of this series! […]

Southern comfort mystery

December 6, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

This was another disappointing read for me.  I am sliding into double cannonball range with a string of books that are just not doing it for me!  This was a random grab at the library, and unfortunately it’s book #15 (!!) in the Sarah Booth Delaney series – not a good idea to jump into something so far along into its run. As per the Amazon blurb:  Sarah Booth Delaney is heartbroken: her fiancé Graf Milieu has decided to move to Hollywood permanently, leaving their […]

Oops

October 9, 2017 by Ellesfena Leave a Comment

I forgot to review this book when I read it last month, so here’s hoping I can remember it well enough to write a review. It’s #6 in the Inspector Gamache series, a mystery series set in Quebec that I cannot recommend highly enough for those of you who like mysteries–but unfortunately Bury Your Dead was not my favorite entry in the series. Inspector Gamache is on holiday in Quebec City to recover from a case that ended badly. He’s staying with a friend, but […]

Killer look lacking in intrigue

September 6, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

I haven’t read Ms Fairstein’s books in awhile, and I was surprised to discover this was #18 in the series about Alexandra Cooper, ADA for the sex crime unit in the New York DA’s office.  I enjoyed the start of the series, but drifted away from murder mysteries until recently, when good romance books seemed elusive.  The premise of this one sounded good – the death of a prominent player in the New York fashion scene, as per the blurb:  High fashion means high stakes, […]

Deeply disturbing and graphically violent

July 26, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

As per the blurb:  Karin Slaughter returns with a sophisticated and chilling psychological thriller of dangerous secrets, cold vengeance, and unexpected absolution, in which two estranged sisters must come together to find truth about two harrowing tragedies, twenty years apart, that devastate their lives. This was a deeply disturbing book – well written, with great attention to plot and detail, but overall disturbing.  I would warn anyone thinking of reading this that it contains highly graphic violence to women, with scenes of torture and rape […]

Secrets can kill you

July 21, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

Husbands and wives. Mothers and daughters. The past and the future. Secrets bind them. And secrets can destroy them. This is book eight in the Will Trent series by Ms Slaughter, which I didn’t know when I picked it up at the library and no idea it was such until I was done and looking it up on Amazon.  Even so, I had no trouble following the story (though some reviews on Goodreads indicate that you shouldn’t start with this book); it seemed a self […]
