They hate us ’cause they ain’t us!

This review is for the audio version of this book. As a public service announcement, I recommend that you check in with your local library to see if they support OneClickdigital or other apps that let you download audiobooks to your smartphone via library membership. I have listened to a lot of hot bestsellers this way for free! Free! This book has been reviewed at least a few times on this site already. While Why Not Me? was less expansive than her first book, I […]

I want to be Mindy’s soup snake now.

November 25, 2015 by bonnie 1 Comment

A few years ago, I cackled my way through Mindy Kaling’s first memoir, Is Everyone Hanging Out without Me? I realize I’m in the minority here, but there’s something mesmerizing about Kelly Kapoor’s narcissism on The Office, so I was eager to get acquainted with the real-life Kaling. I rabidly watched The Mindy Project, and I was delighted to hear that a second memoir was in the works. I find Kaling to be a thoughtful person and her comedy in the Fey-and-Poehler style, so I […]

Earn Your Confidence

I am at best unsure of how I feel about Mindy Kaling. I detested her character on The Office –  Kelly Kapoor drove me nuts. I did love some of the episodes she scripted for The Office, and The Mindy Project is some of my favorite television right now, but not always because of Kaling herself. Sometimes her brand of humor, or the humor she surrounds herself with, just don’t work for me. I can really appreciate a show without always finding it funny. And […]

Dear Mindy Kaling: Please write a romantic comedy. Okay, thanks, bye.

This isn’t going to be my best review ever. Since last night I’ve been fighting exhaustion, and I think I might have a sinus infection, but I wanted to get this review done within 24 hours of finishing because I know that I will forget what I want to say about it if I wait any longer than that. First, I liked this book more than her first one, although I do admit my memory of that one is a bit squidgy. From what I […]

Seriously, Why NOT You, Mindy?

October 11, 2015 by ASKReviews 1 Comment

This was a delightful book to read. I laughed out loud more than a few times, and found myself staying up later than I probably should have because I wanted to finish it. I interrupted my husband more than once to read to him from the book, something I haven’t done in probably a year. If you enjoyed Ms. Kaling’s first book – Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? – I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this one. It has much of the same […]

Yes, you!

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum from goth girl writes about working in a funeral home, we have the delightful Mindy Kaling, back again with more tales of awkwardness and woe. I don’t think I liked this one quite as much as her first, but I still found it a lot of fun. “Work hard, know your shit, show your shit, and then feel entitled. Listen to no one except the two smartest and kindest adults you know, and that doesn’t always mean your […]
