Basic Witch

The Possession by Michael Rutger

February 17, 2020 by Caesar's Wife 1 Comment

The first novel of Michael Rutger’s, which I read and reviewed for Cannonball last year, was an off-the-wall terrifying tome about a YouTube film crew getting lost in an isolated part of the Grand Canyon and stumbling upon a bizarre and terrifying relic of unknown earth history in the process. ‘The Anomaly’ was CRAZY and scary and addictive and disgusting and claustrophobic, somehow, laugh-out-loud funny at times.  The characters were as close to flesh and bone as you can get in a spooky story and […]

Selling point: R.L. Stine has a quote on the book jacket!

The Possession by Michael Rutger

This was a weird mix of disappointing and enjoyable. I really liked the first book, and I couldn’t wait to see what these characters did next. The characters were still great, but the plot and mystery in this one were just not quite there. The first book was a tense adventure story in the […]

Don’t investigate creepy things if you’re not prepared to deal with what you find

The Anomaly by Michael Rutger

I added this to my list after reading Shmecky87’s review earlier this year. It was SO GOOD. I read during breakfast, I read through my lunch break, I read through breaks and way past bedtimes. It starts off light, a quick and easy read, and then it just grips you and doesn’t let go. It starts off a little eye-rolly. I wasn’t going to read first-person dude stories anymore, but Nolan grew on me pretty quickly. He and his small band of YouTubers have a web […]

Things that go ‘bump’ in the dark

The Anomaly by Michael Rutger

February 4, 2019 by Caesar's Wife 3 Comments

When I was a kid, my family and I went camping in the bush. On one particular hike, there was a tunnel called ‘The Wombat Hole’ that was notorious with the camping crowd. It was a gradually narrowing natural cave formation that you could walk into, but had to crawl out of on your belly. I’ve no doubt this natural wonder has long been shut, but the early 90s were a wild, unregulated time in Australian National Parks. So my Dad, tempted by the challenge […]
