I Really Wanted to Like This (Part Two)

January 6, 2015 by ModernLove 3 Comments

I like Jim Gaffigan. I think he’s funny, his episodes of the Nerdist podcast are fantastic. People I admire on Twitter were raving about this book, which I took as a good sign. I also like food. I love reading cook books, cooking, going out to eat, reading about chefs….I’m not calling myself a foodie, but I do enjoy it. You’d think this would be a natural fit! You’d also be wrong.

NPH Autobiography

It’s Gonna Be Legen–Wait For It

January 3, 2015 by ModernLove 2 Comments

I’ve gotten a couple books under my belt so far this year, but I wanted to start on a high note. I had really been looking forward to reading NPH’s autobiography and when I got it for Christmas, I dove right in. To put it shortly, it did not disappoint. I loved CYOA books in elementary and middle school. I was the kind of reader who would check out all possible options before picking one, always trying to get the best ending possible out of it. […]

The millionth review of this book (which is wonderful).

December 30, 2014 by narfna 2 Comments

I think it’s probably impossible to read Amy Poehler’s book without comparing it, subconsciously at the very least, with Tina Fey’s Bossypants (and possibly Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?). Bossypants was certainly on my mind, not just because when I think of Amy Poehler, Tina Fey isn’t far behind (and vice versa), but also because both women (and Mindy Kaling) are associated in my mind with being funny on Thursday night NBC sitcoms. They’ve also all three got that ethos about them. The […]

This Girl is on Fire

December 27, 2014 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

I’ve been reading at a faster clip now that I’m actually done with the Cannonball. Or at least, it feels like it. Maybe it’s because the pressure is off. This latest book comes courtesy of that old traveler’s standby, Hudson News. Even though I have about 20 unread books on my Kindle – including that bastard book five of A Song of Ice and Fire – I always wander into this newsstand/bookstore when I’m at the airport. This book caught my eye and I’m really […]

There’s a shortage of perfect movies in the world. . .

If you have the chance to see Cary Elwes talk about his book, go, it’s well worth braving the crowd.  If you don’t get the chance, be jealous of me, I won’t hold it against you. I’m amazed I didn’t faint.
