I live in a house with service mice and a grumpy old man

I Live in a Tree Trunk by Meg Fleming

March 9, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I live in a tree trunk. I live in a barn. I live in a shoebox. I’m down on the farm… So say the animals (and much more) of I Live in a Tree Trunk. Each animal, in simple text by Meg Fleming and simple art by Brandon James Scott, tell us where they live. Things are aimed at the aged three and up, with a few rhymes to help pass the time. There is nothing OMG Best Book Ever! to this picture book, […]

I Was Born a Baby, too!

I Was Born a Baby by Meg Fleming

April 27, 2022 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

I did not realize I Was Born a Baby was by Meg Fleming when I picked it up. Why I say this is that Fleming is the author of Wondering Around another book I recently read and reviewed. I did not know because the illustrations by Brandon James Scott are different from Wondering Around, as well as the tone itself is different. Therefore, if you do not like one, try the other. Come see what you can see

Wondering Around by Meg Fleming

April 25, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The story of Wondering Around by Meg Fleming was so-so for me. There is nothing wrong with it, but I was not “grabbed” by it. The story is simple, you travel around nature seeing and being curious. And when you do this, you will find how little things can connect with one big thing, making it something wonderful and grand. It is the illustrations of Richard Jones that I really liked. They are bold and soft. Brash and calm. They are colorful and well, they […]

Lunch was less than satisfyingly, but these picture books made up for it

I was sitting at lunch, eating something not that great tasting (but when you forget your lunch and the owner provides food, you know beggars can’t be choosey), I decided to distract myself with some quick picture book reading. And I found six titles that By George the III! Are pretty darn good. Each of these is a Third or a 3 rating. Not OMG but books I will gladly recommend and might just read a second time. Here Comes Ocean by Meg Fleming (author) […]
