I still don’t really know how I feel about this book. #CBRBingo – Red

Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes

August 3, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

This is one of those books that has the weight of expectations before you even pick it up. I bought it, actually at a Rainbow Rowell reading, right before the movie came out and everyone was talking about it all the time. Then my sister completely spoiled me for the plot (I asked her to; she wasn’t being a dick), and it sounded like something that would make me angry, so I just never got around to it. Flash forward to this year when the […]

“Know first who you are and then adore yourself accordingly.”

February 17, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

Lou Clark is back in our lives and it is glorious.! My wonderful husband took me to Barnes & Nobel after our Valentine’s dinner and told me what every girl wants to hear, “Pick a book out, and don’t use your Christmas gift card.” Swoon. A bit spoilery. Do we really need a trilogy of Louisa Clark novels? Probably not, but she is clearly a beloved character (/ money maker) and Jojo Moyes is trying to give her fans what they want (/ buy a […]

I’ve been sitting on this review for awhile now, and not just because I procrastinate with the best of them when it comes to my reviews, but because I honestly do not know how I feel about this book. I think I know how I’m supposed to feel about it, but I’m not even a hundred percent sure of that. I’m sure you know the story, especially since the movie came out a few months ago. Quiet, shy, relatively poor Louisa loses her job at […]

A resounding meh

September 11, 2016 by yesknopemaybe Leave a Comment

2.5 stars. I had heard wildly different opinions about this book before actually reading it, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve seen reviews lambasting it while others raved about it. And I’ve read more than a couple of think pieces lambasting it for its treatment of disabled people and a few defending the story. It feels a bit anticlimactic to read it and shrug my shoulders with a meh, but that’s exactly what happened. I can definitely see why the disabled community would […]

The Life Worth Living

August 28, 2015 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

My Jojo Moyes kick continues with Me Before You; the unlikely love story between Louisa Clark and Will Traynor. Lou has just lost her job at the local cafe; she helps her family out financially and after numerous attempts to find a suitable job with her limited qualifications is placed with the Traynor family as a care giver for quadriplegic Will. Will was struck by a car two years ago and has been suffering from depression related to his injuries. He has made a deal […]

I wasn’t a blubbering mess at the end of this one, but it was still pretty good.

Earlier this year, I was one of many who fell under the spell of Jojo Moyes’ Me Before You. I cried my eyes out at tragic, yet somehow still uplifting, love story. And I loved Moyes’ familiar, comforting writing style. Conversational and realistic. I was a big fan. One Plus One is Jojo’s new book. And while the book doesn’t have the same emotional punch as Me Before You, I still recommend it. I mean, come on. We can’t cry about everything. Jess is a […]
