Second most fun I have had with a basketball book

Hoops by Matt Tavares

April 18, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

CBR15Passport own The Matt Tavares graphic novel Hoops is the most fun I have had with a basketball story since Dragon Hoops by Gene Luen Yang. Based on real events, this is a great story for fans of graphic novels, basketball (girls/women’s, boys/men or either), or a great friend’s story. The newly formed girls’ team is expected to wash their own uniforms […]

Why does the author pick this name? Or used that plot point? Did they have a say in who illustrated it? How closely did they work together? Did the author feel the art and text compliment each other? And if the author is also the illustrator (as it is […]

When the art flies off the page

November 8, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Red and Lulu is another book that is deeply set in the true Christmas spirit. It is about love and family and the joy of the holiday. There is information about the history of Rockefeller Center and the Tree that stands in the center of it at the end of the book. Matt Tavares has great text and even better illustrations telling his story. The art is a 5 and the text a solid 4 rating. (Spoiler) When Red and Lulu are separated the reality […]
