Murderbot is back and hosin’ hostiles once again, baybee

Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells

May 3, 2021 by andtheIToldYouSos 3 Comments

Murderbot, my misanthropic friend! Welcome back- back to the PAST! There had been a lot of scuttlebutt floating around telling us that this would be a novella (hooray- I think the novel format dragged the last entry down), and that it would be a prequel. Hmmm. A prequel? Right after a satisfying promise of adventures with returning beloved characters? Booo! Once again, I stand by eating my big ol’ helping of crow pie while Martha Wells proves, once again, that I should trust the author […]

Why is it so short T-T T-T

Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells

May 3, 2021 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

I’ll admit that I should have finished my re-read of the other Murderbot books before this, but this week has been a bit of a Trial and I just wanted to read something I knew I would like. And I did. I actually managed to force myself to stop about 30 minutes from the end so that I didn’t finish it too quickly. If anything, my largest gripe with this novel is that it is set a) prior to the full length novel Network Effect and b) […]

A SecUnit’s work is never done

Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells

May 1, 2021 by murderofcrows 1 Comment

Fugitive Telemetry, the latest novella in the excellent Murderbot series by Martha Wells, has our faithful, snarky Murderbot on Preservation Station, guarding the humans it saved in the last book, attempting to relax watching Sanctuary Moon and growing perhaps a bit bored when, alas, a dead human appears. Excuse me, a “deceased human” as our dear SecUnit is repeatedly told to say. Dead human sounds..too blunt…too icky, which Muderbot hilariously reminds us is very true. Humans, dead or alive are constantly eating, secreting, smelling up […]

Slight downer, but nothing serious

Network Effect by Martha Wells

April 29, 2021 by kimberleybear 1 Comment

[Read as an audiobook from the public library] This is a little frustrating, because I really wanted all this to end on a high note. I wanted to like Network Effect at least as much as Artificial Condition, since ART was back. But that just didn’t happen and it kind of bummed me out. That’s certainly not to say I didn’t have a good time or I didn’t enjoy this book, because I absolutely did. So in this feature-length installment, Murderbot finds itself kidnapped by the transport […]

Fugitive Telemetry

How fast after a book is published is too soon to post a review?

Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells

April 28, 2021 by postcardsandbooks 4 Comments

So Murderbot book 6 came out yesterday. Yes, I admitted I had a problem last time, so I think we should all accept it and move on. What can I say? Let’s start with the basics: Fugitive Telemetry is a novella (yay!), works as a standalone adventure, and takes place chronologically before the events of Network Effect. I want to point this out because it’s the one thing that slightly disappointed me. After the end of Network Effect, I was expecting Murderbot to go off […]

We have reached the throwing things stage

Exit Strategy by Martha Wells

April 25, 2021 by kimberleybear Leave a Comment

[Read as an audiobook from the public library] There came a point in this book, near the end, where I nearly threw something. This only happens when I’m 100% invested in the story/character. It’s happened a handful of times with books – it’s easier with movies or shows where I have visuals to focus on. But Murderbot nearly made me throw something. So now we know I’m a lost cause. Murderbot reunites with its previous clients in this one, in order to rescue its favorite […]
