Murderbot and ART: relationships, trauma, and planets are the worst

Network Effect by Martha Wells

System Collapse by Martha Wells

Note: This is a spoiler-free review for Network Effect and System Collapse.  If you’ve read Network Effect dive into both reviews!  However, if you haven’t read Network Effect do not continue on to the review of System Collapse.  In order to discuss System Collapse I need to include information that is learned in Network Effect (which is kind of spoiler-ish if you haven’t read it yet).  If you have not read Network Effect yet, please enjoy its review.  When you’re finished come back for my review of System Collapse! Compulsory by Martha Wells Murderbot shortly returns, in a book that I was happy to pay $0.99 for to get as much of the world as I possibly could. As someone who spent all last week happily reading and then having to spring out of bed/sofa to catch my father about to trip or someone who needed help with something that definitely didn’t NEED my help but probably justified it, I understand exactly where Murderbot is coming from and where it wants to go (back […]

A Power Unbound by Freya Marske Ah, the first of the many, many books that I was going to read on vacation. Which I finished on December 13th, with my vacation having start on (checks) November 18th. Excellent, excellent, I am SO glad to be moving to a new job that respects the idea of holidays… The final and largely satisfying end to the The Last Binding triology set in a regency(?) England which is so very queer, the pieces that have been slowly moving […]

I, too, like a rousing sci-fi series about a murderous robot that wants nothing more than to watch soap operas.

All Systems Red by Martha Wells

Artificial Condition by Martha Wells

Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells

Exit Strategy by Martha Wells

Network Effect by Martha Wells

Before I get into the reviews, I’m just going to preface this by saying I don’t really remember all the individual books, but Murderbot is one of my favorite characters ever. All Systems Red (5/5) “Murderbot” is the self-chosen name of a security android appointed with the task of protecting a team of scientists surveying a planet. It is a rogue SecUnit, however, and has overridden its governor, unbeknownst to everyone else, and wants nothing more than to disengage from the world and watch soap […]

CBR15 Bingo: Take the Skies (Double bingo)

Network Effect by Martha Wells

October 11, 2023 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars CBR15 Bingo: Take the Skies Murderbot is away from Dr. Mensah, the person it likes the most (although it would never admit this to anyone, or itself), in order to guard a research party (which includes Mensah’s daughter). The group is attacked and sucked through a wormhole, and Murderbot is really very annoyed about the sudden upheaval. When it turns out that the abduction may in fact have something to do with an old friend of Murderbot (not that it acknowledges friends, as […]

Green to red, machinehead

All Systems Red (Murderbot Diaries #1) by Martha Wells

September 13, 2023 by Halbs 1 Comment

This book delighted me. All Systems Red provides thought-provoking characters and ideas without sacrificing a single bit of fun. It’s both enjoyable and insightful, especially about personhood. This series came highly recommended to me by fellow sci-fi enthusiasts. For this first book, I checked out the audiobook narrated by Kevin R. Free. Based on the strength of this first entry in the Murderbot Diaries, I will go ahead and buy the attractive box set of the physical books. I would like to keep them handy to […]
