Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village by Jay Cooper and Maureen Johnson I got about halfway through this book. The gist is that, in a Quaint English Village, everything and everyone is out to murder you. The first few chapters made me chuckle. I skimmed the rest. There are some quizzes to see if you are paying attention. For me, the novelty wore off after the first one. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson I […]

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

October 4, 2022 by Ale 2 Comments

My sister is going through a difficult time, and because books always make me feel better, I went looking for a self-help book that I thought she would like. I stumbled across The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, and mostly because of its catchy title, I decided to give it a whirl. I honestly didn’t think it would be as good as the ‘bestseller’ sticker purported, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Subtle Art feels like a giant demotivational poster for all the […]

This book really made me not give a F*ck

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

I’m not sure what got me to read this book, but apparently something enticed me. I think I liked the idea of not being positive all the time. I have a tendency to be relentlessly positive. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn’t. I’m not sure if my problem was the narrator, or the words, but I was frequently annoyed by this book. I think one of my issues was the gratuitous F bombs. Like obviously by the title, there will be F*cks. I have […]

Get your priorities straight!

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

Cbr12bingo Happy This short book could count as a “how-to” as well as a “happy” category book. The title might lead the reader to think it’s a funny send-up of self-help books, and while it is frequently funny, it is actually a very helpful discussion about finding the right values to guide you in life. It’s about prioritizing and recognizing that a good life is not an easy one and that you shouldn’t strive for easy. This is really a great book to be reading […]

Adding F*ck to the title makes it seem deeper

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck should be used in marketing classes as prime example of what you can achieve with proper positioning. This book contains some pretty basic self-help advice (decent advice, for the most part) but appeals to a new audience by including fuck in the title. People who scoff at self-help are apt to pick it up and think, “Hey, this guy swears, he must be like me, not like those ultra touchy, feel-gooders who have a Ph.D. in Musicology but […]

…thou shalt see that it is barren.

Like many of you I have had an adverse reaction to the state of politics over the last few hellish months since President Eats-His-Steak-With-Catsup-Like-A-Goddamn-Child was sworn in to office. To be honest it still feels like a nightmare and I find myself jolting at least once a day when I remember that the people of the United States elected that lying gasbag as the President. This is why I don’t watch shows like Black Mirror. When this is our reality there is no reason to […]
