Serendipity

Serendipity by Marissa Meyer

January 25, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well this didn’t work for me. It says ten romantic tropes transformed and I didn’t get the transformation part myself. Per usual, here are my ratings of the following short stories. As a collection I gave this a three because some of the stories dragged a lot and my attention started to wander. Bye Bye, Piper Berry (The Fake Relationship) by Julie Murphy (5 stars)-Told from the point of view of Piper Berry and one of her best friends, Gabe. Piper finds out that her […]

I keep singing the title of this to the tune of “Animals” by Maroon 5 for some reason…

Renegades by Marissa Meyer

October 10, 2020 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

We’re in superhero land once again!  This time Marissa Meyer is taking a stab at it.  Now, this book is at a bit of a disadvantage for me, as I’ve just re-read Super Powereds, so it will probably fall short.  I’m also trying to read it in 2 days for a book club, and reading a book on a deadline always makes it feel more like an assignment to me.   Ok, so we have people with superpowers, and they are called prodigies.  They were […]

Every time I read the title of this book, I read it to the tune of “Helpless” from Hamilton

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

October 10, 2020 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

This is a story of Wonderland before it became the broken thing that Alice encounters in the book.  Residents are more or less happy and good natured.  They don’t stay that way, however.  Wonderland is a world of cards, and there are many fun and innocent games you can play with cards.  But there’s another land through the Looking Glass, the land of Chess.  And Chess is a battlefield.  Some things from Chess have come to Wonderland, and they will never be the same.   […]

Entertaining Story But With Missed Opportunities

Supernova by Marissa Meyer

December 28, 2019 by Jen K Leave a Comment

While  I was a bit disappointed with the second novel in this trilogy, I wanted to see how it would end, so I picked up Supernova, the final book.  Overall, it was an improvement over Archenemies, and there was more positive than negative, though I still think there were a few missed opportunities. At the end of the last novel, Nova had set things into motion that would blow her cover and put the Anarchists back into a position of power.  While Nova successfully stole […]

Unfortunately, This Was Too Much of a Middle of the Trilogy Filler Novel

Archenemies by Marissa Meyer

August 23, 2019 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I might be remembering incorrectly, but I feel like the first novel in this new series, Renegades, had somewhat mixed reviews.  I actually enjoyed it because I enjoy super hero stories (just because Brandon Sanderson’s Steelheart trilogy exists and is amazing, doesn’t mean there isn’t space to explore other stories like this). Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about Archenemies. Renegades included a lot of set up mixed with plot development and action as well as an amazing reveal at the end.  With that, I […]

The queen’s private hacker

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles book 4) by Marissa Meyer

April 29, 2019 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This is the third book in the Lunar Chronicles series.  At the end of the last book, we got the whole gang together (Cinder, Thorn, Scarlet, and Wolf) to try and overthrow Queen Levana.  They decided to enlist the help of the queen’s own hacker named Cress.  Cinder and Thorn are most wanted fugitives, so they need all the help they can get. They find out about Cress, who is trapped in a satellite and under the thumb of Levana’s thomiturge (literally no clud how […]
