Dragons of the Hourglass Mage – Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (2009)

Dragons of the Hourglass Mage by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

December 7, 2021 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

The final of the “Lost Chronicles” book and like the previous one that mostly focuses on Kitiara, this story picks up Raistlin’s lost adventures during the last book. In the final book of the Chronicles, Raistlin removes himself from drowingin the maelstrom, seemingly dooming his brother and companions to their death. It’s clear from both this book and that book that this was the most he could do, save himself, and well, I’d also argue that if they wanted to be saved, they maybe should […]

The Odyssey – 5/5 Stars So my review is specific to the newer Emily Wilson translation, which I find particularly good and readable. She writes a long introduction that serves as a solid guide to the epic, to the writing, the historical context, and other important keys. This is long, but worthwhile, especially if you’re new to the story or it’s been a long time or you’re a little rough in your epic-reading. From there, there’s a very good translator’s note of some length explaining […]

Dragons of Dwarven Depths – Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (2006)

Dragons of Dwarven Depths by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

There’s some purposeful gaps in the storytelling of the Dragonlance Chronicles. Specifically, we don’t get the story of saving the magical hammer from the depths of Torbarden, we don’t know much about Kitiara until we do, and Raistlain disappears for a long while. This series, written in the early 2000s goes back and fills in those gaps, which mixed results. The story for this first volume involves the companions looking for the magical hammer in the depths of the Dwarven realm. We know they succeed […]

CBR13Bingo – Old Series! So I am calling these the ret-chronicles because there’s some reverse engineering happening here storywise. This happens a few ways. For one, certain events and knowledge that would have been really important and useful in the War of the Lance, appears here in this books, but not in the main novels. And sometimes this forgetting is dealt with and sometimes not.  For another, no one talks about most of these things in the main novels and it seems like some of […]
