Sometimes dreams do come true

April 12, 2016 by yesknopemaybe Leave a Comment

The Raven Boys was a good start, but Stiefvater really hit her stride in The Dream Thieves. I was unsure if I was going to like it at first. Dream scenes in novels are a huge pet peeve of mine and unsurprisingly, a book with the title The Dream Thieves has its fair share of them. Luckily, these dreams are mostly like entering a different world instead of wallowing in subconscious symbolism that nobody, least of all me, wants to read. They further the plot […]

Something different, something familiar, something magical.

March 28, 2016 by alwaysanswerb 6 Comments

With the fourth and final book in Maggie Stiefvater’s Raven Cycle coming in April, I finally gave myself permission to read the series I’ve heard so many good things about over the years. I must say, the first three books managed to exceed my expectations, and now I’m afraid I’m going to be very impatient for the remaining weeks until I get my grubby fingers on the last book. One of the less obvious advantages of waiting as long as I did to read this […]

Death tends to put a damper on things

March 24, 2016 by yesknopemaybe 2 Comments

3.5 stars. I’ve heard so many good things about this series of young adult books by Maggie Stiefvater over the past few years so I’ve been really eager to read it, but I didn’t let myself until now because the last book is coming out soon. I tend to forget the details of books quickly and that makes for a poor reading experience when each book is a year or two apart. Anyway, I finally borrowed the first book from the library as an audiobook […]

Objectivity is for the weak.

March 11, 2015 by Amanda 6 Comments

I’m going to try hard to be objective and coherent in this review, but I make no promises because I love this book to a ridiculous degree and it’s hard not to just post, “ZOMG I LOVE IT, READ IT AND TALK ABOUT THE FEEEEEEELS WITH ME.”  But since I really do want people to read this book (and the rest of the series!), I will give coherency a go. Blue Sargent is sixteen years old and the only girl born into her family with […]

You could have done with having a BIT more happen, Maggie

November 23, 2014 by Malin 2 Comments

Blue Sargent’s mother is missing, and it’s quite clear that time passes differently where she’s gone. This loss affects Blue deeply, although she has Mr. Grey around and her Raven Boys to take her mind off things. Blue, Gansey, Ronan, Adam and even Noah are still trying to find Glendover, looking in caves all over the area. They are told repeatedly that there are three Sleepers under the ground, and it is imperative that one of them not be woken. They now have the aid […]

The Raven Boys – Solid paranormal YA.

January 3, 2014 by ModernLove Leave a Comment

Full disclosure: I love YA. If I manage to make it through this year and challenge, I’m willing to bet that the majority of my reviews will fall into that category. No shame! The Raven Boys has been on my list of books to read for quite some time. I finally got a copy and, at first, wasn’t sure what to make of it. It jumped around between three or four characters a lot in the first few chapters, but once it finished the set […]
