Avoiding the end but it’s not quite the end

The Unbound Empire by Melissa Caruso

May 2, 2021 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I have noticed a rather troublesome habit about myself that when I get to the conclusion of a series, I tend to put off reading it because I don’t really want things to end, but this is a problem because of the risk of spoilers. I blasted through books one and two of the rather generically named Swords and Fire series maybe a year ago, and finally not too long ago, I finally have gotten to book three, The Unbound Empire. I knew a little […]

Sexy Witches in Seattle

Heart of Darkness by Lauren Dane

September 28, 2020 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

The cover of Lauren Dane’s Heart of Darkness drew me in at The Ripped Bodice. Upon discovery that it was a witch paranormal romance, I was SOLD. With my access to bookstores limited, I’ve started to read more books from my shelf. As this is book one of the Bound by Magick series, I’m reviewing for the CBR12 “Fresh Start” bingo square. Meriel Owen is a badass lawyer, lover of pencil skirts, and sexy as hell red-headed witch living in Seattle. In this universe, witches […]

Don’t ignore the preface of this entertaining monster mash-up

June 5, 2018 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

The Fangs of Freelance continues with the entertaining story of Fred the Vampire Accountant and his friends who include alchemists, zombies, mages, therians, a dragon, a sentient house, and some unknowns. This stuff began and continues to be a fun riff on monster-type fantasy fiction. It also plays with the supernatural crime-fighting organization, which gets more attention in this book as we actually get to see Fred go through his interview and skills test to become a contract-based accountant for the Agency where Krystal (demon-contracted […]

Rating: 4/5 Summary: This story is about a mage who is prophesied to save the Realm. Out of all the elemental mages, only she can summon lightning, which makes her dangerous and extremely powerful. Atlantis, the evil corporation-like entity that controls the crown, wants Iolanthe and her power for themselves. However, Prince Titus, the Master of the Domain, has his own plans for Iolanthe. Namely saving her from Atlantis and hoping she’ll help him destroy Atlantis and all it stands for. Neither of them expects […]

She blinded me with magic

April 9, 2014 by alwaysanswerb 2 Comments

This will be a comprehensive review for the six currently published books in the Kate Daniels series, which do not differ significantly in tone or quality, but each have their own novel-length mystery or case and each contribute to an overarching theme story. Differences in my ratings have to do with my particular interest in the specific plotline and advancement of the series-running arch in each book, but overall, I like this series, and if you like one you’ll find the rest worth reading. There […]
