When a 42 page book makes you write a 500 word review

The Important Thing About Margaret Wise Brown by  Mac Barnett

June 17, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The Important Thing About Margaret Wise Brown by Mac Barnett is that it is not like his other books. The Important Thing About Margaret Wise Brown is that she was an author. The Important Thing about Margaret Wise Brown is that Barnett and Sarah Jacoby have created a book that you must experience. It cannot be told/written about. This book is 42 pages long. As many pages as years Brown lived. It will bring strong emotions to the forefront. It will tell you about Brown’s life in […]

The Mac Barnett & Jon Klassen Show

The Wolf, The Duck & The Mouse by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen

Triangle by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen

Square by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen

Circle by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen

I picked up these three Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen books because I’m a big fan of I Want My Hat Back (Jon Klassen) and wanted to check out his other stuff.  I also got my nephew a copy of Sam and Dave Dig a Big Hole (Barnett and Klassen) for Christmas.  All of these have something that’s a bit off from normal children’s books. Maybe the kids don’t notice them, but the adults sure do.     (Also, this review features all of the […]

I Love You Like a Pig by Mac Barnett

April 2, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I should take my own advice and say that, “This book stinks, stanks, stunk!” enough times to cover the 250-word requirement. When I saw Barnett’s book, I Love You Like a Pig, sitting there on the sale table bells went off. I still cannot remember why this book was in the back of my mind (other than it has gotten attention over the years), but I am not sure why it has gotten attention. I am sorry to say if I could give this book […]

Kid Spy!

April 23, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Something tells me Mac Barnett was not just a quirky kid, but is a quirky adult. His new series, Mac B., Kid Spy Volume One: Mac Undercover proves this. The Mac B. series are true stories about how Mac was a (wait for it) a spy. But not just any old spy. No, he was a kid spy for the (again, wait for it) Queen of England (does not matter he lives in the United States and has to go to school tomorrow). As farfetched […]
