TEENS! IN! SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

The Disasters by M. K. England

June 20, 2020 by andtheIToldYouSos Leave a Comment

Got in juuuuuust under the wire with this one! Another #CannonBookClub pick, another book I probably wouldn’t have picked up without being told to do so! Fortunately, it was fast-paced, warm-hearted, just dangerous enough hold me in suspense, and (last but not least) cute. The basic set up is, well, pretty basic: misfit teens up against their own social structure and a corrupt regulatory force in a race against time to stop the big bad thing from being big and bad. The misfits get into […]

Book Club Discussion: The Future is Queer!

June 19, 2020 by faintingviolet 19 Comments

The time has arrived, I’ve been looking forward to The Future is Queer book club since we hatched the idea late last year. What better way to celebrate Pride than to focus on some speculative fiction by and about LGBTQ folks. Whether you read one or all four of our options, I hope you find something below that sparks your interest so we can continue to enjoy talking about books together. On to the boilerplate: ground rules remain the same as they always have. For […]

A Dash of Courage, a Pinch of Brains, a Splash of Luck, and a Whole Lot of Heart

The Disasters by M.K. England

May 16, 2020 by Lisa Bee 3 Comments

This was my first choice for reading out of the options of June’s The Future is Queer #CannonBookClub, though to be honest all of the 4 possible books for the book club sounded right up my alley! A group of so-called disasters having to come together to save themselves and the universe? A found family that comes together through their shared factor of being outcasts in one way or another? I love to see it. The Disasters opens with a group of 4 young people […]

Reminder! The Future is Queer #CannonBookClub is Coming Soon!

April 14, 2020 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

We’re a little more than two months out from our next book club on June 19th and 20th. For our June book club  we’ll be celebrating Pride Month the Cannonball way with a The Future is Queer book club focusing on speculative and science fiction written by queer authors and/or featuring queer characters.  Since the world has gone into a more protective mode in response to our current pandemic, books might be a little harder to come by, or you may have found your reading […]

Announcing 2020 #CannonBookClub Topics and Dates!

February 6, 2020 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

For CBR12 we’re planning three book clubs that we hope will inspire you to pick up a new to you book or reread something and consider it again. On March 20th and 21st we’ll celebrate five years of #CannonBookClub and revisit our first book – Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. We have lots of new faces, as well as plenty of us who have been around since Cannonball Read 7 so it seemed the perfect time to revisit one of my favorite books […]
