Two five stars in a row from me for this series. I love it so much!

The Marquis Who Mustn't (Wedgeford Trials, #2) by Courtney Milan

April 21, 2024 by narfna 5 Comments

As often happens with books that I five-star love and gobble up in a mindless pleasure fest of reading indulgently, I am finding it hard to have anything to say beyond BOOK GOOD READ NOW. But let’s try anyway. This is the second book in Courtney Milan’s Wedgeford Trials series, about a small town in Victorian England that is full of mostly Chinese emigrants (as always, the author’s notes are a must-read for historical context) but other members of the Asian diaspora as well. The […]

Road Trips and Christmas Huzzah!

Holiday Romance by Catherine Walsh

Snowed In by Catherine Walsh

February 20, 2024 by Mrs. Julien 3 Comments

Following the magnificent Emmalita’s recommendation (as one should in all things), somehow I went to buy Charlotte Stein’s When Grumpy Met Sunshine and ended up with Catherine Walsh’s Snowed In instead. I have no idea what happened, but the book was still great and now I have a new author! Such are the transitive powers of Emmalita’s approbation*. Now, not only did I buy the wrong book, but I read  Holiday Romance and Snowed In out of series order before circling back for a second […]

Different People Like Different Things

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

February 13, 2024 by Mrs. Julien Leave a Comment

Given a glimpse at some stats it would seem my re-read and this review are redundant (4.5 out of 5 stars from 75,912 ratings on Amazon; 4.1 on Goodreads from 988,148 ratings), but here I go:  Glorious! 4.5 stars! All the laughter and the joy! Sincere emotions! Hail fellows well met! Amazon’s Version: Nora Stephens… agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s […]

Adventures (and prophecies) through space and time.

The Principle of Moments (The Order of Legends, #1) by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson

January 27, 2024 by narfna Leave a Comment

I’m glad that my DNFing of a book I thought was terrible only thirty pages in led to me picking this book up much, much sooner than I would have otherwise, because I really enjoyed myself, despite some nitpicks I have with this, mostly to do with the author being a debut author, and an extremely young one. Overall, she feels like an author who could have some really, truly great books down the line. This book, which the author started writing when she was […]

If novel reading were really bad for the health, we all on this site would have perished long ago.

The Belle of Belgrave Square (Belles of London, #2) by Mimi Matthews

January 26, 2024 by narfna 2 Comments

Didn’t expect to read this whole thing in a day! But that is exactly what I did. I really, really like Mimi Matthews’s style. This is the second book of hers I’ve given 4.5 stars. I think I’ll have to look up her backlist sometime soon, especially since the last book in this series (Belles of London) has a character from a previous series (Parish Orphans of Devon) as the hero. The Belle of Belgrave Square follows the second of our equestriennes, Julia Wychwood, who […]

I’m pretty sure I will forget almost everything about this in less than a year.

It Happened One Fight by Maureen Lee Lenker

January 8, 2024 by narfna 3 Comments

I pre-ordered a signed and personalized copy of this book from The Ripped Bodice because I really like Maureen Lee Lenker after listening to her appear many times on one of my favorite podcasts, Screen Drafts. She always comes on and talks about classic movies, and she talks about them with such confidence, knowledge, and deep affection; I like her so much that I decided beforehand that I was going to love her romance novel just as much. Well. It Happened One Fight (the title […]
