Wonderfully Sarcastic, Quietly Romantic

Pretty Face by Lucy Parker

February 26, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 6 Comments

Lucy Parker is TWO for TWO! Buy this one! Pretty Face follows the contemporary romance that I hope you’ve already read, Act Like It, in Parker’s London Celebrities series and she continues to mix clever writing and emotional sincerity to gain engaging, recommendable results. Herewith the only note I took while reading, “wonderfully sarcastic”; although, I highlighted several passages, such as, “It’s a lost art, condescension. Most workplaces are so PC these days that you just don’t get patronized in quite the same way.” and […]

Pretty Solid

February 22, 2017 by Beth Ellen 3 Comments

3.5 Stars Act Like It by Lucy Parker was quite a popular book last year. Personally, it was one of my favorites of the year and I’ve now read and reread it at least half a dozen times. It was light and fun and pretty much everything I was looking for in a romance. When Ms. Parker’s next book was announced I obviously pre ordered right away. And then it came in early on my Kindle on Monday. Luc Savage is theatre-ish royalty in London. […]

Better than my first novel would be

January 24, 2017 by Ellepkay 3 Comments

Lucy Parker’s Act Like It was a big hit with CBR 8.  This one is Parker’s previous book, written under a pseudonym.  It is ok.  It’s really short coming in under 200 pages.  If you liked Act Like It and you have some free time, it’s not a waste to read this one, but I didn’t find it to be a particularly compelling story.  This review is going to sound like a list of complaints (and it kind of is), but I pretty much enjoyed […]

We’re all so much alike, and yet so utterly different.

November 23, 2016 by ingres77 16 Comments

For the first 100 pages or so, this book was a literary Krispy Kreme doughnut: utterly devoid of nutritional value, but glazed in pure happiness. And then, like the best junk food, my joy immediately turned into regret, and my proverbial teeth felt like they were rotting out of my skull. Act Like It is about a man (Richard) and woman (Lainie) who star in stage production in London. He’s a celebrated actor (emphasis on the last syllable), she’s a budding young star. He’s a […]

Cute, but not my fave.

October 31, 2016 by narfna 1 Comment

Everybody here has been losing their minds over this book since it came out, so I knew I would read it eventually because I am a sheep and do what I’m told. BaaaAAAaaaAAAAaaAaAA. ANYWAYS. This book was great. Nothing earth-shattering or revolutionary, just straight up cute romance featuring hate-to-love protagonists. My only real complaint about it is that it wasn’t long enough. I needed at LEAST fifty more pages of them being in that stage right before actually falling in love with each other. This book […]

Please don’t kick me out…

October 20, 2016 by Lynn 7 Comments

So everyone loves this book. Everyone. It’s been all over CBR. And it popped up as $2.99 or something the other day on Amazon, so I downloaded it. And… I didn’t much care for it. Can I still be in CBR? I mean, it was okay. There were a few funny moments, and I laughed a few times, but I expected lots of snark and banter and wit and… I don’t know. It just didn’t blow my skirt up. Lainie is an actor in a […]
